How ridiculous can MAXPREP's be???

What's on your mind?

by fasterpitch92701 » Mon Apr 05, 2010 9:20 am

I have never paid attention to MaxPrep's. After hearing several comments I was compelled to look at it and it was amazing. But, the rumors I heard were true. HS coaches apparently enter bogus numbers, wrong numbers, inept numbers, don't enter anything, stat's that are worthless, some entries are made by people keeping a scorebook that have no idea what a "hit" is, some by who-knows-who's DD, blah, blah, blah. I am sure that the initial intent of MaxPrep's was a good one (whenever it was started) but it is obvious that anyone who bases anything on the stats is not living in this solar system and are enjoying their alternate reality.

Nevertheless, if the comics don't provide enough amusement at least there are alternative sources. Having now invested about 15 minutes in going through MaxPrep's looking at players I know, I can now comment to others who appear to embrace it (usually coaches with a DD or the scorekeepers of a DD) and say "that's nice", knowing it's buried in b.s. (last and final 15 minutes) And if the parents believe that Arizona or UCLA or Washington or xyz coaches actually read it... well... again, an alternate reality and I really wish them well. I needed a good laugh, anyway. Got it.

I was thinking the same thing. ;)
If you actually think that parents are sending the maxpreps stats out to colleges that's pretty funny. Don't hate on everybody else's stats, we know what's true and not true just roll with it. Maybe next week your DD stats will be inflated. :D

It is a joke, last year there was girl (A) chasing a couple records on Maxprep. Her season was over, girl (B) beat her record and girl(B) had another game left. A week later somehow
girl (A) had another stat added to her already tainted stats. I heard from someone that their would be a ball hit under the short stop legs and the left fielder would miss it also. Then the outfield would over throw the ball and the girl would go to third and she would get a triple.
BTW girl (B) clutched up and beat her record.

It should be 100% honest or nothing. Wait around next year for someone to lie about your stats

If you don't think this happens on maxprep all the time I have some heybucket stock I can sell you at a great rate.

I am sure there are some inflated numbers on Max no doubt, very hard for a kid to hit .700 all season at any level.

We use OC Varsity too, and compare and find a medium.

But here is a thought let's add a stats page here at the Bucket so we can be honest about all of our DD's stats

Prime example - During game batter hits two hard ground balls to third baseman, if my kid was playing third I would call both errors. Instead from our side both scored as hits then from the other side one scored as error and the other as a hit. Go Figure ??

I kept score at the HS. Coach was a D1 athlete. i was not. Things that she thought were errors, you would have had to be D Jeter to field. So, it can go both ways, I guess.

Stats are impossible to compare when different people are keeping them. It works for the MLB because they all are instructed to make same judgement calls. I have not looked at Maxx Preps in a very long time.As long as the same person makes the same decisions for my team i can use them to compare MY TEAM.

Last week a mommy was keeping the book. Her DD made 2 very bad throws to 1st base forcing the 1st baseman waaaaay off the base and no out's were made.

1st baseman was credited both errors on MaxPreps :?

I think it's funny
