If you go by population, Ventura County kicks the a$$ of all others

I'd be done if I were you too. There are only so many Shaq quotes to choose from, and you're obviously drawing pretty thin on your own. But thanks for the well-wishes just the same...

Sweet! I knew I could count on my fellow bookworms to have my back.

We're mad as hell, and we're not going to taste Shaq's ass ANY MORE!

Some great teams from SD no doubt, and even the SD Renegades Org is one of the best in So Cal from 12U-18G IMO. And I loved watching that group of Mystic 93 girls... Nice kids who play the game having alot of fun... But, fastpitch pound for pound, you cant deny the year after year success' of Firecrackers, OC Batbusters, Corona Angels, Victory USA, So Cal & American Athletics, Minors Gold and I am probably forgetting a couple more... Corona, Hemet, I thought you said OC

Kind of curious if you are just considering the home of the team or where the actual players are from? Example, Corona Angels Knighten has 4 Riverside County Players, 2 from LA County and 8 from the OC. PowerSurge has a couple from the OC as well and Temecula area which is technically Riverside County I think. So, is the topic which county has the greatest talent pool or where are the best teams/organizations based out of? Seems to me San Diego County has always had a couple very strong teams, LA and Riverside County as well; but I'm going to have to vote for the OC for having more talented softball players than any of the other counties, speaking in numbers. This is a curious question. How would one answer it? I suppose the first thing to do would be to define what is meant by 'best.' What is the age group? Do the teams have the 'best' winning records? Do they place more players in college?

Here's the population of some of the counties being discussed.

Los Angeles 10,363,850
San Diego 3,146,274
Orange 3,121,251
Riverside 2,088,322
San Bernardino 2,055,766
Ventura 831,537

Teams are generally based somewhere and it often has to do with field availability along with distance to the head coach's residence. I believe that's how a team derives its definition as OC or LACO or SD etc...?

Can we classify a team as being an OC team if most of its players do not come from OC? I suppose one could look at the professional sports analog. Those teams are classified by town but players come from nearly everywhere.

Given the numbers above we could talk about players on good teams by home of record per capita? If that's the case it may be that 'watcher' has made a valid conclusion. Ventura County is lightly populated by comparison and there are quite a few good players coming from there even if they don't play on Ventura County teams ;-)

My impression has been that there are far fewer elite players and teams than one would expect coming out of the South Bay, specifically places like Torrance, Carson, PV, and north along the coast. Do folks disagree? Am I right and there is some reason for this such as lower interest in FP in general?
