14U top teams to watch

by Slammer » Fri Oct 02, 2009 8:39 am

Everyone upgraded? There must have been a buttload of talented rec ball kids out there.

Yeah didn't you know and teams that where not on top thirty last season are now top 10 without playing any big tourney yet. Watch out its going to be a good season with all those superstar teams.

I would say that a REALLY good sleeper team is the Downey Nemesis 14u. Great core returns from 12u national squad and they added very strong pitching. They also hit the crap out of the ball. Top ten teams watch out, these girls can play.

Speaking of the 3 95 teams and I would add TNL ... the real question is did their pitching return intact? It seems the last couple of years that the top 14u pitchers do not return for their final season in 14u. Most top teams are able to find suitable replacements.. but a few did not and were never a serious contender.

TNL what did they do? Did the 95 pitcher remain in 14u or move up?

Having watched some of the 96's.... there has been big movement in pitching. Hard to have a poll without knowing where some of top pitchers landed!

In the end a Top 3 team without a top pitcher – is just a middle of pack team that will get lucky and stage a couple of upsets but will not be a true contender.....

PS. Watched some 18u Gold games and spoke with a couple of 18u Gold coaches... good programs having difficulty locating decent pitching. If some of the young 93’s & 94’s don’t step up…this could have a ripple effect on the top 95 teams in spring.

Heard the lefty moved up, another pitcher went to OC Elite, another to Dodd's Thunder team, and another healing from an injury. Not sure what that leaves them or if they picked up any other pitchers.

We get to play a couple of the teams mentioned this weekend. I will report my humble worthless opinion after the tournament. Funny that you would post this.....we were just talking about how 14U seems a little diluted compared to years past.

The point he was making was that there could not be enough "top talent" coming out of rec to upgrade every team as you posted earlier

Try telling their parents that!
Don't worry about tomorrow. You did that yesterday.
