I agree with the statement about the TPS pitching but the Sting has one dominate pitcher and if she is not avaliable they are an average team. I am not trying to knock them but they are one pitcher away from geatness or one pitcher away from average. The Sting is good but they are verry good when the ace is on the mound.

The Texas Sting 98 team has such good pitching and plays great defense, great defense is the key, I feel they will be in position to pull off some upsets.

Tps 98 also has good pitching and good hitting. If they can get more consistant on defense they also will be in position to pull off some upsets.

At this point those are the only (2) 98 teams that will have the chance to pull off some upsets. Not to say that come spring some of the other 98 teams will gain enough to come thru also.
It will be difficult to play with the top 2nd year 12u teams. The Red Hots and High Voltage are good solid teams to be reckoned with and will probably lead the in 12u.

It does not matter who has left or who comes on board the RED HOTS will recurit and draw good players because they are a top notch team. I hear they have recurited as far away as DALLAS TEXAS and she has joined the team. go figure. Once on top you will stay on top.

TXRedHotCoachMarti wrote:Okay, I will say it again, this time slowly so everyone can understand. Our team lost 2 "key" players, they were our starting 3B and starting SS. They are wonderful young ladies who I wish all the best in the future, the sky is the limit for them. Since losing the 2 "key" players, we have added a "key" player. She in turn will be a very important part of our pitching rotation (she was the ace of another Houston teams staff), she is also going to add alot on defense at multiple positions. Oh yeah, and she is a good hitter with good speed (she hit leadoff for her previous team).

We are currently working on another "key" player, you all will see her in the leadoff spot for us at some tounaments during the fall, and you can make your judgments based on her play then, but I will say the GREAT State of Texas has alot of talent to offer from ALL over the state.

Tex, I will just say that our girls work extremely hard, they play extremely hard, and they don't care who steps on the field with them, that team better show up because our girls will not let off the gas once the first pitch is thrown (Our goal is a run rule w/a shutout every game). I know High Voltage is the same way and I know Jody's team will be the same way. Now the other '98 teams I am not familiar with at all, but I am sure with all the talent in Houston there will be some very competitive teams.

If we are or aren't the favorites here in TX doesn't really mean much to us, we have one vision and that's to be the best team in the country, and we know we have ALOT of work ahead of us.

If there are any questions regarding our team please feel free to ask, I will be completely honest in answering.

I agree a lot of watered down talent out there in 12U. As some have mentioned, a lot of league teams have some success with their all star team and the coach has the great idea of becoming a full fledge A-ball team. Then they get on the field with a true A-ball (please don't ask me to define) and get the living lights kicked out of them. But those true butt kickings are too few and far between because they are playing in tournaments where 90 percent of the competition is watered-down and so they have some success and they convince parents, hey, we are not so bad after all. Of course the parents are clueless because they don't know any better. So the cycle continues.

I also agree with some of you that it is way too early to tell until the games begin. A lot of those tooting the 98 TPS and 98 Sting horns have to realize, it is a different ball game. And those of you who are now second year teams can attest to that. 35 to 40 feet and 11 to 12 inch does make a difference. If TPS did not get stronger on defense, they better start because even the above average first year teams that had trouble hitting against them in 10U, WILL hit them now. I believe 98 Sting did get better on defense and and they were strong on defense to begin with, so I see them having some success against the weaker and below average 2nd year teams. Lady Astros 98 I believe lost some key players so they will probably struggle.

Second year teams that competed well against the second year teams in 12U this past spring I believe included teams like the Rattlers, Lady Astros 97, HV 97, and of course the Red Hots. All have made some player changes, but all either stayed the same or became stronger because of the changes. Pearland Panthers also had a good hitting club and if they picked up another strong pitcher in the offseason, they may be a solid team as well.

The reason it is going to be hard to rate the teams as well is because some of these kids are hitting their growth spurts. What may have been a good contact hitter in the spring, may now be a stud big bat. Or they may have picked up some speed making them better runners and fielders. Time will definitely tell.

Tell me H-town has more than that? The Red Hots are the only team on there that could hold the sack of a good dallas team. Yeah so their ace is from Dallas. Her daddy thinks shes getting better competition down there!

Tractormf: what you hear is correct, one of our pitchers is from the Dallas area, she pitched almost half the season with us in the spring and will be with us through Nationals in Bloomington. Your sources have been dead on so far with the stuff you have been hearing.

Coaching these travel teams is like being a chemist.... you need talent but it better mix well or it can blow up on you as well. The coaches that can take good talent and compete at a high level get my respect. There are allot of coaches out there if you load them up with all the best talent they can win, but can they keep the team together over the long haul or improve the already talented girls on there team. Keeping the chemistry on the field and in the stands can be tricky business in it's self. Good luck picking out of 75 teams. My bet is the teams that were coached well in 10u will still be the teams that will be coached well in 12u. If I was looking for a team it wouldn't take me long to narrow the field for tryouts . ;)
