More hitting? Better d-fence? How will pitcing be effected. I hear evryone will hit this year, we better have some de-fence from what it sounds like.

Hammer, I think we are basically on the same page. My DD is 2nd yr 12U this yr and on a very competetive team with an awesome coach. (we worked hard to find that for her) She's had to earn her way on the field most definitely. Got absolutely NO problem with that. With that being said, we are just now starting discuss with her that things get a little more serious this yr and she's got to devote a little more time to training to get what she wants. We have not really pushed her to (nor have we had to) do anything with softball because we wanted her to just LOVE playing. Don't want her to burn out in HS because she missed out on everything else being pushed too hard, too soon. That is all I am saying.
I am really amazed at the # of new 12U teams this fall in Houston. My real problem with that many is that they all say their goal is "ASA nationals" No way that many teams can fill a roster that is capable of that goal. I see 3-5 teams capable of that from Houston.

Yes, way to many teams ! This is the year we will see some decide that softball is not what they thought. Or other interest start becoming a factor...... boys other sports in school or the competition gets a little bit stiffer and they see they have to start really working harder to compete at a high level. It is a realty for everyone and no one is exempted from it. They still have to enjoy the game there coaches and players on there team and start seeing there hard work paying off on the field. Different kids have to take different paths to succeed. All we can do is give them opportunity's..... they have to take the ball and run with it and put the work in. We will see who is still standing in the spring and where everyone settles. If your not putting things together by now, let's just say the sand is running out of the hour glass. They grow up fast ! ;)

I agree that, in South texas, 10u, 12u, and maybe a little in 14u there are alot of teams out there. The old saying will still hold true. " The cream will rise to the top." Your good teams will still be in the mix at every tournment because they will still have their pick of the best players available.

Girls who want to play travel ball can play because we don't restrict the number of teams. That is a positive. Girls can play ball. Does it dilute the talent when our teams go to nationals?? I would say yes it does. But could you keep all the super stars with the "parent egoes" happy on 1 team to win asa nationals? Probably not. It's not the girls thats would hinder it. As we all know it is the parents.

So let the girls enjoy the experience of travel ball. They have the right to compete regardless if it dilutes the top teams are not.

I agree with you 'Tex". It's the parents, some of them are never happy. What would happen if we didn't have so many teams and some of these stars players came over to the top teams to prepare to make a run at nationals. I bet some of these parents wouldn't be so happy when their DD was having to share playing time.

I agree parents can screw up the works pretty quickly.
Something else to ponder.... Having the 9 best players in the area does not make you the best team out there. I'll take 9 "good" players with heart and a "team" mindest with good parents anyday and they'll beat your 9 superstars and their superstar parents everytime.

Another point to ponder, how can a coach possibly keep 12 to 14 sets of parents/players happy? When or if they are all..... say a ss or equal to and use to playing most every game :D Do you play the best of those and lose some? Do you sit all out a game, equally, and still lose some? Whats the answer here :D

It seems to me the better communication you have with the parents ( about there kid ) the better you can control problems before they arise on your team. This may allow you to keep parents realistic of there dd capabilities, or where she stands on the team. Also gives the parents a chance to voice there opinion of there dd or the coaching in private... to the coach. This eliminates the roomer mill or other parents getting drug into bad attitudes on the team. If you control the parents the girls are no problem.

This is a two way street that both party's should try to accomplish. If you have a coach that does not try to meet with you regularly, you as a parent must build that relationship and open the door. remember both of you have a common goal (your dd getting better).
