It'll be more like the regional nationals, a chance to earn a berth/invitation to next years Premier tournament

Not one of the coaches listed has made a commitment to this tournament. Have E-mailed several of these coaches n the only thing they say is that if they qualify for OKC they will play in it.

This is just another money grab by Gary Haning/Dan Hays. Dan's team couldn't Quallify this year, Gary's team had its worst finish in years now they want to run there own tournament. Gary sure wasn't complaining when he was winning, now that he has fallen a little he is crying foul.

And your credibility is ??? Care to name a single coach that actually emailed what you said they did? I didn't think so. Gary wasn't "complaining when he was winning"? How on earth could you possibly know this? Defend that statement. The FACT is that I have heard of him voicing some of these concerns long before this year. Apparently ASA failed to respond to him and others when they did so in years past. Those facts (verifiable by others) don't exactly support your statements do they? Hard to figure why. Another money grab? How could you possibly KNOW what his motivation is? Explain.

Credibility? Until you provide something more than baseless assertions, you have zero. That makes you nothing more than another parent who doesn't like a coach. How special.

And my kid has never played for Gary or for any team in the OCBB org, though they have passed on her twice.

Wonderdog you better read the entire post again. Their are actually a couple threads about this that have received a lot of positive support from teams that are on the list. I have talked to teams that are not on the list and all I have heard is positive input.

This has been in the works for a long time going. It has nothing to do with the way Gary's team finished this year. Lets hear who you have talked to.

Not if they are on the same weekend

I have read the thread.......

I said one goes to premier and one to gold, so that makes 2 different gold teams in same organization. It will happen, you wait and see....I agree with Gary and lots of other posts on this thread. ASA has a monopoly and should change things.

Any team that wins the premier will not be a national champion. This is an exposure event similar to the Fireworks, Indy, RMD, etc....It would be a great win, but not a national champion. This is a few people putting on a very good tournament. Just like IFA, NSA, TC, USFA, will give someone a big trophy that says national champion on it.

I agree that you have to make noise to create change, and this will be a great tournament. If you invite teams and they do not have prove that year they are the best to be their, then it is not a national championship.

This is an invitational not a National Championship know matter how you write it, publish it, or promote it.

Okay I got you now.

What if their are qualifiers throughout the country to get you into The Premire?????

To wonderdog:

Name a coach you have emailed, produce the email, it is easy to do.

I personally have talked with every coach on the posted list and a few others and every one has told me they will send a team, the best team if there are two, to HB.

Yes my team did poorly, how am I helping that by trying to be sure we invite all of the best teams in the country first?

I don't know who you are you if you have ever run a tournament but the costs of everything planned for this tournament will far exceed the revenue all of the income that will come. If we can get some sponsors, if we can get some breaks from the cities, maybe we can break even.

If we do earn something for a year of work and provide a top notch event for the teams and spectators, so what. Do you actually thing ASA does not make money on their 164 team 16U tournament and the others? It is none of your business but 20% of anything we do make, if we make anything will go to a scholarship fund or a registered charity, we are deciding between breast cancer and and one of the groups that are trying to help the despicable situation in Africa.

There will be no gate passes required, no cost whatsoever to come watch a game. Sound to you like we are out to make a fortune?

My name is on every thing I write, who are you? What credibility do you have with screen name and anon comments?

Texas Yellowball:

Yes, a couple teams said they would send a team to both.

They also said they will send the best team to HB, time will tell but I believe them because they want the best competition.

I disagree that it is not a National Tournament, when one of the 4 returners in Gold or Women's Major did not have to qualify the next year and won, which happened often, that did not mean it was not a National Tournament. If you play the best teams in the nation and the summer leading up to the tournaments will prove the Premier teams are the best, you are the National Champion.

There will be qualifiers this year and in concept the number of invited teams will be reduced each year until after three years only 8 will not have to qualify.

The exact process has to be worked out and that will be done soon when we meet with the 7 or 8 people from around the country.

This had to be an Invitational to start, it never was intended to always be such.

This will be posted on the premier site next week:

Dates: August 9-14. maybe August 10-15 for 14U 16U

Teams: only one group for Division I, it will not be called 18U because eligibility will not be determined by age but by grad class. 64 to 76 teams, California teams will be limited to a number not yet decided.

Other information to come once we get the Florida, Texas, NE, NW, Mid-West people together around August 26

Wonderdog----If it works, and it benefits JO fastpitch then WHO CARES!!!!. I watched the LL softball world series (senior division) on ESPN this morning and thought a lot about this event. God bless those kids that were playing but the top 10 14U club teams would have whooped them. The best players in the country should have the opportunity to be seen in that type of spotlight. No disrespect to LL softball but it aint them!!!! If Gary can put this together over the next few years this has a huge upside for all of JO fastpitch. At least Gary is attempting to do something in a positive direction. Please point out some notable improvements ASA has made in the last 5 years.
OH yea and ASA doesn’t do it for the $$$. Ahhhh don’t for get to pick up your ASA cards at the end of the qualifier or they keep your 20 bucks and use 75 cents of it to mail it back. NICE

PS. I am from So Cal but not one of the elite 18 gold teams that would be invited to this event. My dd has not played the game for few years but I continue to coach because of the passion I have for it. I simply want to see this sport move forward and give more young ladies the opportunity to achieve their goals. After reading through both threads I really like the ideas Gary has with this. I do not know him personally—at least not more than a hand full of emails or calls about his other events. I do have friends that know him very well and have always told me he is always about doing what’s best for the girls. Quit being such a scrooge and give this a chance. If you’re not invited then go to one of the qualifiers and play yourself in.,,,OR come up with a better plan, OR play in the JV games in OKC!!!!

My vote does not mean much but I hope Gary and his committees consider the breast cancer fund. Our teams had raised some funds for the Horary for Hanna foundation. A 10-year old rec ball player here in so cal that had breast cancer. There was great support in the softball community for breast cancer.
