Last time I asked her, she was MAKING $600/month after expenses. She is being paid for one simple reason and it isn't because she inherited my incredible good looks. She performs a service and she is compensated for that service with, among other things, money that she can spend as she pleases. I rather doubt anyone looks at her softball "training" as being for post-college employment, yet she gets as much or more than the football players.
Just a side FYI, vis-a-vis the apprentice bit, my son (a college senior) told me yesterday that business/marketing internships in NYC are now usually completely unpaid. He would be better off financially on my daughter's athletic scholarship than what he will get if he is lucky enough to land an internship.

The apprenticeship rant was only to show that just because one is paid, doesn't make them a professional. So I guess you too are one that would consider a 9th grader a paid professional if the school pays themselves the tuition for the student to attend? Unbelievable...
What your daughter is getting isn't isolated to athletics therefore is not receiving anything that an academic scholarship wouldn't give. Did your daughter do well in HS? Did your daughter receive any academic money? Did she do well on the SAT/ACT? Students receive extra expense money all the time and not just athletes.
