Ok, but the final bracket results were posted an hour ago online and it's still somewhat light as I speak. They definitely could have played.

I think this is a disappointing trend gaining steam in the younger age groups. I know, I have heard all the excuses, sorry reasons, for not finishing a tournament but they are all bull. Do you think that all of a sudden games are being played late on Sunday, girls are tired, they have homework, meaningless tournament, etc, and these are all new occurrences that teams have never had to deal with before?
These players have plenty of years ahead of them dealing with the monotony of the showcase format where nobody wins. Now is the time that they should be able to play a tournament to completion and experience the satisfaction of a job well done with a win or the " kick in the belly" of coming up short and having something to work towards for future improvement.
Character is made on the field and contrary to what the parents and coaches say the girls want to have a shot at being champion, even if it is just in the XYZ tournament..
Why have parents and coaches decided to take this away from these young athletes?

yah spaz I agree with you 100%!!!
I'm sure it had nothing to do with the games being behind schedule for an hour and there were no lights at the fields. Oh yeah I'm sure the coaches didn't ask Don Cone (cruisers) how long before it gets dark and they can't see...and I'm sure he didn't say 40min before it gets dark here. Yeah so thats pretty inconsiderate of the coaches thinking about the safety of the players.
congrates Firecrackers

Dark by 7:10? It was light until almost 8:00 tonight.

Somehow I'm guessing if it wasn't two teams from the same org they would have at least tried to get it in.

Methinks thou doth protest too much...

Another tournament planned with no margin for error.

I hear more and more colleges say that kids now a days get to college and don't know how to compete. Throwing in the towel instead of fighting to the end in a tournament is sad.

It is unfortunate that this game wasn't played out, but that being said, there is no way they could've gotten the game in. They would have played for maybe 45-50 minutes (if they were lucky) before they would have to call it. Even though it's light until 8pm, it's not light enough to see a ball coming at you 55 mph. Totally unsafe after 7:45pm - Yeah, they should've played it out - who cares if someone gets hurt, it's the Championship afterall.
Congrats to both Firecrackers teams - great job all weekend.
Also a big thank you to the Cruisers for putting on a great tournament - fields were always taken care of and looked great all weekend :D Unfortunate there were a few ITB's that set things back, but it is what it is. Great teams, great competition.... couldn't ask for more!

Nice reply.
It has lead me to create a new hey bucket term....smartasshat

This type of tournament result was not an isolated incident but has occurred numerous times for various reasons. If darkness is a potential problem get a field with lights.[/quote]

Smartasshat is a hat I am guessing Kekambus wears proudly.

I suppose the Cruisers could have hosted the tournament in BF Egypt (or Hemet), but I doubt they would have been able to attract the solid field. There were more top teams than I ever remember being assembled in a non qualifying tournament, great pools, great brackets, but true enough - no lights.

I do not agree with the premise of the post that the adults have taken anything away from the young athletes; it is simply difficult to gather 24 teams and whittle them down in 2 days during the school year. With that said, it would have been nice to see a Champion to this tournament.
