this is all getting interesting so i thought i would chime in- my opinion is that at ANY age level you have to figure out if you have a team that is going to stick together and take the next step. if not, you should just play for the moment and let those who want to better themselves find a team that is more suited for them. but, if you are a coach and find yourself in this situation year after year you might want to look in the mirror and tell yourself to stick with town ball and leave travel for the "elite" teams. at the 10u level it is more important to be a GOOD coach than worry about trying to win every tourney out there. it is the coaches job in my opinion to have all the girls on a team wanting to come back year after year to play the game they love. i've seen too many coaches drive girls away from the game because all they care about is 2 or 3 girls on the team and WIN WIN WIN............my suggestion to any parents/players out there that have problems with their current team..........unless your child is coming up to you and has issues with the team, just bite your tongue and don't create added stress to coaches who already deal with a lot of BS throughout the year. coaches- just be 100% honest with parents and players and you'll be surprised what that might get you.........the worst thing you can do is play "politician!".........in my 5 years of coaching i've had 2 girls not come back and i will always wonder if it was something that i did wrong.......
