To Coach....

are you saying that the two best 10U teams in the state of indiana are "B" teams?? and that these two "B" teams have decided to play in the "A" state tournament?? well i would think that is where these teams should be, and they should not be allowed to play in "B" tournaments with rec ball teams!

Glad someone else noticed that the best two 10u teams in Indiana were B teams.......interesting. Sounds like more folks need to step up and play up!

coach = coach of the Indiana Magic 10u?

Both the Heat and Crown Point are playing top teams, or attempting to at least. I think they're still listed as "B" from last year when they were a younger team, would be my guess anyways.

"B" Class should be for rec or town all star teams, DIP how can you say these teams are playing top competition when the season hasn't started yet.

To my knowledge the "season" started back in September. I would venture to say that the Heat, Crown Point, Xtreme, Edge, and Gators have all played at least 5-6 tournaments so far, maybe more than that already? Most of these teams have probably played 40 games or so already. On top of that, I'm pretty familiar with the teams at 10u this year, as well as where / who they've played since September or so.

Yes! Most definitely. The girls from the Bull dogs and from the Indiana Heat are all from the same area. I know for a fact that 8 of the 9 girls on the Indiana Heat roster go to the same school and all play rec ball at the same little league. So technically, they could be a C team except for the 1 girl being from out of district? I'm just saying that is fantastic to see a group of girls like these two teams who have been together since they were very young come to play travel ball and step it up from the B level to the A level for state. There are only 2 or 3 registered A 10U teams in Indiana I believe.....maybe a few more. Indiana Heat and the Bull dogs are playing in open class tournaments. They are travelling around trying to find the best teams in the state. They are hiding from no one. They paired up this weekend just to have some competition even the the Heat were down 2 of their main players on a 9 girl roster.

I think this is a great model of what can be done in small towns if you get a core group together early (I'm talking age 6 or 7 for these girls) and look how dominant they can be. Good for them and for their coaches for working so hard with these girls on a shoe string budget and competing at a top level.

The new year does start in Sept for most teams! All fact is most tournaments around here are open A/B tournaments. That being said, if there were more teams registered as A teams then tournaments could split into A and B groups. Also, you reregister each year, so not sure what u mean by still listed as B from last year. If they are listed as B then that is how they registered this year. A/B means nothing anyway if u r playing in A state and World Series. The best 10U last year was CG Cyclones who were also reg as a B.

The Central Indiana Catz looked pretty good last weekend. They have some talent and some good bats. They will just get better and will beat teams.

It's not tough to look good once in 10u. It's tough to look good consistently!

It is tough to compare year to year, but I am not sure 10u has teams yet as good as the Cyclones, Chix and Gators last year. Even the Indiana Raiders (Portage) were really good. But it is only March!

The "A"/"B"/"C" classification is very gray.... especially at 10U. Most 10U teams will (SHOULD) register as "B" teams unless they are legitimate "C" rec all star teams. "C" is reserved for all stars, not "B"...

When these 10U teams complete tryouts, they have very little idea if they will be A or B because MOST teams are newly formed in August with a small, if any, core of girls who have been together. If a team registers "A" and a player or team finds out they can't measure up, it is difficult in some classifications to move back down. If you register a team as "A" and a child feels she is in over her head, she is NO LONGER eligible to go play in rec or all stars because she will be in the database as an A player. It is recommended that all 10U teams register as "B" until you are sure you have a roster capable of playing at the "A" level.

Furthermore, there are few, if any, legitimate "A" level 10U teams in Indiana on a national level. Go watch the ASA 10U World Series, or go to Florida/Texas/Georgia/California etc... and you will find there is at most 1 or 2 teams in the state with the combination of pitching/defense/hitting at 10U to compete nationally. The gap lessens as the girls get older, but the southern girls just have much more game experience due to the length of their season.

These teams/coaches are not "bad" people or "trophy hunters" for signing up for "B" as a general rule. They are just protecting their teams and players against a possible bad decision. ;)
