Soft Dot (RIF) ASA Ball and Bats

by SoCal10UDude » Tue May 11, 2010 12:04 pm

I had a rec coach ask me this question. As you know CA ASA Rec / All Stars use the RIF ball. Which type of bats perform better on this kind of ball ? Straight Aluminum Alloy (e.g. Easton Reflex) ? Aluminum composite (Rocketech), or resin/fiber Composite (Stealth/CF4/CF3 etc.) ?

I thought this question was interesting. My girls in the past used composites (CF3 etc.) and seemed to hit very well and I always blamed the RIF ball for not hitting true monster shots. Another coach I just spoke to said the Aluminum / Aluminum composites perform better since they do not flex as much as the resin composites so you do not have the ball and bat smooshing together at contact. Another coach said the resin composites because the more smooshing the better and allow the bat to lift the ball off the bat.

What is your input on this Q ????

I was told last year that the all aluminum alloy bats work better. I don't know though as we played out the summer there seemed to be no noticeable difference.

Although I think hitting the sofdot ball violates Easton's warranty.
