14U Colorado Fireworks vs Colorado Sparkler

by AZsbcoach » Thu Jan 21, 2010 5:46 pm

As a team that played in the Fireworks the last 2 years, once in 12 then in 14's the next year, the competition is much better in the fireworks vs. the sparkler. At the 14u level, about 40% of the teams at the fireworks went right to georgia a month later and competed at the ASA nationals, as opposed to about 5% of the teams from the sparkler. That alone should tell you which tournament has stiffer competition. Like earlier mentioned by someone, depends on what you are looking for, fun or grit.... pick your poison.

You could always attend TCS in park city, utah.

txfastptch...I also heard that earlier this year that the champions from each age group would play the champinons from the opposing tourn, sparkler vs. fireworks....i put my money on the fireworks.

For the 14U, I am putting my money on the Sparkler winning that one..
# 6 or #16 Firecrackers(which ever one it is) #9 and #17 Batbusters, #31 USA Athletics, #34 Punishers. Not to mention some well deserving Texas teams that might make a good run. I dont know your rankings, guess bracketologist only does California ;)

Fireworks has #26, Rebels and thats the only team from California that has signed up as of yet. You have a few good teams from Georgia and Texas in it, but where the majority of the California top #35 go, that is where the competition will be. No offense to the rest of the USA, but California is where the level of play is set and the teams that want to get better go play there or them abroad...JMO

OK, I'll give you the 14u, should be a battle though depending on which Ga or Tx teams show up to play, the 16 and 18 should go in favor of the fireworks, again, just depends on which teams show up to play. As we all know, any team, any given day.

Good luck to all and safe travels where ever everybody is going this summer.

And on a thread here on HB "Fireworks vs. Sparkler" the general consensus was in favor of the Fireworks.

Before everyone starts bashing me, I know that minimal recruiting is being done in the 14U division but why are most of the California 14U teams going to the sparkler instead of the Fireworks?

Could any of the teams listed below going to the sparkler care to comment.

Fireworks is better established, gets the better fields (by far - the TCS fields are horrid), better blues, and Fireworks gets the best teams (regardless of where the CA teams are going, overall, the best teams are in Fireworks).

Would be interested to learn if the CA teams weren't approved by Fireworks and are going to TCS Money Grab just to be going somewhere.

Also interesting that so may CA teams that should Qual for Nats are going to another costly tourney 3 weeks before The Show? I'd wager that many of them entered, but few have committed (paid) yet.
Don't worry about tomorrow. You did that yesterday.

anonlooker wrote:I'm stunned that all those CA teams are going to the Sparkler. As Spazsdad noted, it's nothing more than another TCS event, and by the looks of it, the same teams will be playing each other... again!

DD went to 14u Fireworks a couple years back, we were the only CA team, many from TX and eastern teams (NJ, VA, etc). Great tournament in every respect, has a national feel to it with teams from all over. And also might help pave the way for a team looking to play in the Fireworks in the upper age groups down the road. (BB, CA et al may have 'established' covered, but many teams do not)

Going to CO to play the TCS event just doesn't make much sense. It will be the least attended by college coaches, who are already familiar with Fireworks, Aurora, Boulder - not so much Sparkler, which is really just a money play by TCS to capitalize on the well established Fireworks.

One reason may be that the Fireworks accepts teams that have been before, or teams they are familiar with, and since the 14u operates separately from the older brackets, it may be that they turned down the CA teams (for whatever reason). :o

From what I know the Fireworks is the better tournament and if your organization did good in the past you get accepted to play in the tournament again period point blank! If any CA teams got in and did well they will get accept to play again at the tournament.

In 14u it seems the tide is changing for So Cal teams - both OC Batbusters mcnee and Lakewood Firecrackers are in the losers bracket.

In the other tourney - Amy's Cal Rebels scored some runs but is done!
