What to do with my Assistant Coach

by coats » Tue Jan 26, 2010 7:29 pm

Just found out that my assistant coach is shopping her DD to another team. Should I cut her or let them leave on their own. Not a spectacular player, but consistent. It also puts a hole at that position.

Confront her about it and if it is true boot them. There are way to many players out there to put up with any crap from parents. I would not give her more than one chance.

What kind of a relationship do you have with the assistant coach?
Are they causing any dissension or problems with the rest of your team?
Is the other team a better opportunity for the player?

Look at your options:
1. Do nothing and hope they stay - seems risky.
2. Cut her without a replacement - doesn't seem wise.
3. Discuss it with the assistant coach - depends on your relationship.
4. Start developing/recruiting a replacement - protects the team and gives you options.

I have a screen shot from their myspace about spending all day at a tryout for her DD.

I thought I had a good relationship with the entire family. However, we moved up and the team they went out for is staying down so it might be better for them in the long run. I hear of a lot of openings on the team, so i think they might have turnover issues.

I picked up a girl that is on that team for a tournament once and she couldn't even produce a foul in 3 games since the bat was stuck to her shoulder. I hear she is 3-4, so perhaps she was sandbagging or really didn't want to play and decided to get benched.

Addition by subtraction.

Cut them....If they are shopping they have already mentally left your team....If you don't cut them you will lose more than that kid!!
