Usually at this point in time you will just hear talk but the first major tournament is St. Paddy's Day in Vegas and that will tell you the real who's who in 10U. A month later is Fresno Force and that will definately tell you the top 4-5 and "everyone else". States I see as the major qualifier and at the point where teams truly making a run for Nationals should start to peak and some teams start to unravel and end it all. There is the Pacific Regional Tournament as well to qualify but I think 10U was cancelled last year for lack of teams and as a qualifier it is tough as it is usually just a couple/few weeks before full blown Nationals and one would need a lot of cash reserve to qualify at Regionals and a few weeks later hop on a plane for Nationals.
Absolutely all 10U teams should do States for a couple of reasons:
1. Automatic Berth to Western Nationals, not only for the experience but for the berths for next year 2011 as Desperados and Aztecs are taking advantage of for 2010 and/or teams that have a 2yr plan, can be especially good for '00 teams playing now.
2. After states and no plan to qualify or attend Western Nats, unless you're gonna do TCS, your season is over in May. If you're on a team like that, you might want to consider rec/All-Stars as your season will be longer and your daughter with All-Stars can be playing for a few months longer.
