Elite college look

by husker » Tue Oct 20, 2009 5:31 am

Am I the only one out there that felt they got the duped this weekend? Some teams got 4 games others got 6 or 7 but we payed the same amount of entry fees. Or did we? You were for sure going to get a game at the big complex so they could get some more money out of the parents. It was also very nice to get to play on a boys baseball field.I know that it is a scheduling nightmare with this many teams. But if you would take the $ out of your eyes and limit the amount of teams it would make for a better tourney for the kids and the parents.Just remember this is for the kids and not your bank acct.

If you only got one game on the main field and played a game on a boys' baseball field, you probably wouldn't get into the showcase at all if they limited the number of teams. You may have been right where you should have been to get your kids seen. One JUCO coach never left the satellite fields as far as I could tell.

I was very pleased with the showcase. We were at 3 different complexes and we saw college coaches at each one.
As far as the extra games for some teams, an email was sent to the coaches asking them if they want extra games. I guess those teams that got extra games responded to the email.

husker,

I am sure that JD could add 2-3 more complexes and fill it up with teams if he was only about the money. His October and July Showcase events have a great reputation, and it's well deserved. I'm sure he does fine off of the showcase money wise, but you're talking about several months of hard work to pull off 3-days of a showcase.

I promise you that if there wasn't money to be made off such an event, it wouldn't be near the quality it is now. The issue around our area, is that everyone wants a world class showcase, with hundreds of coaches in attendance, which requires months of work, but everyone wants to knock the people for putting in that hard work if they make a few bucks for their time and effort.

If you look around, the best events around the state are the ones where:
1.) there is a charity involved, and several people spend time in a joint effort to pull it off
2.) there is someone making income from the showcase

Just look at how well the team fundraiser showcases or city/association showcases have done compared to the 2 classifications above.

On the extra games, if I remember correctly, you can purchase extra games, they are not just given out for free.

Mark, please man!! Extra games were given out for free, our team got one!

This tourney is about money for the Bancrofts and Kuss's....why do you think his team got mostly prime fields at prime times when most if not all of his kids are committed, and her team is a 14U team...more on prime fields at prime times than 95% of true 18u teams out there!!

Dare say it's not about their personal interest and money...please!!!

Lori,

What I'm saying, is the Elite college look is good place to play becuase people make money off of it. I'll gladly take my kids to JD's events when it's time, becuase I know in our area, it's one of very few events that coaches will attend consistently.

If we don't play at the main complex, then it's OUR fault if coaches don't come and watch us play, not the schedule. If we're only good enough for coaches to come watch us when it's convenient, then maybe we should take a hint.

We are all in a money driven world....Almost all exposure tournaments in the D/FW area are money driven. The Elite tournaments and Glory tournaments are by far the worst. Elite did not even turn on the lights last summer and made people come a whole day earlier for this reason. The Glory does not even try to hide their bias. These statements are not made up, look at the schedules and look at the facts. With all this said, they will continue to be successful because everyone continues to attend.

Coaches do attend all fields if you do your work. But they can only watch so many girls on any given weekend. Being at Heritage and Arch Gate is an advantage in the recruiting process. These coaches can stumble across talent due to the large amount of coaches that camp out at these two complexes. The other complexes can appear to be a long ways away and they do not always venture out to those complexes in large numbers. Being at the Main complexes are helpful.

You have to give the Batbusters credit for running a honest and fair tournament for a great cause.

This can all be resolved very easy. If you don't like the tournament don't attend. All tournaments are money driven one way or another. Send out your emails. If your girls do thier work the coaches will come. My only complaint over the whole weekend was the Firday night schedule. Having an Austin team play on Friday night at 8:00 on Texas OU weekend was rough, but someone has to play those games. We got 3 games at the main complex and 1 each at the other 2 fields.

Don't get me wrong, i am not complaining about our field draws...and BTW 18's..there were 4 complexes in use, not 3...one was a pathetic baseball complex with the mounds shaved down....ridiculous for a "college look".....goes back to how much money can pad the Elite pockets. We were happy with our draws, but had many friends on other teams who really got shafted by Elite. I feel for them, as a softball parent and friend. It is easy to say don't play if you are not happy, but the reality is with so many teams playing at the main complex, it is rough for the college coaches to travel 4 different parks to watch all the girls they need to...that is why EVERY team should be given equal opportunity to play at the big fields, and I don't mean every game on fields 6, 7, 8, and 9, a half mile away from the main field.
