Injured Player Info?

Not butt-hurt in the least.

This debate has been hashed out at least 10 times in Hey bucket History and it always ends the same "Those for rule change" and "those against". The only time a rule change will happen is when Bollingers Insurance company tells ASA to change it or find a new carrier. I'm for parental responsibilty and don't need anyone to mandate anything for me otherwise before you know it they'll be dressed like lacrosse players...

Back to the subject at hand as you stated Hopefully the young lady is doing well and there will be no long lasting affects prayers and best wishes to her and her family.

I bet your DD has one of that 300 dollar bats that would take the head off of one of those fielders. It is your right to buy one, but ya know, if you are that concerned about the over-all safety maybe you can ask your DD’s coach to supply the team with Wal-Mart bats.

I agree with Dirtqueen. There is a risk playing any sport and that is an assessment we as parents make. Governing bodies of each sport have rules and equipment guidelines. They are reviewed and adjusted appropriately. We as parents can then decide if we prefer our kids to participate and what level. We can choose to add added safety protection or not. Where do you draw the line??? That is for each parent to decide and does not make it a STUPID decision, just one you don’t agree with.

If you read my posts, I never argued against a parents "right" to make the decision for their child. I simply focused on the dangers of those decisions. "Rights" go two ways...I simply pointed out my view of the situation.

And thanks for assuming what bat my DD utilizes.

Non of our parents did   :P

I preferred the "trunk" of the VW Bug...two of us.
:D

If it were all about safety, we would be playing with the RIF ball as well, all the way through HS, and wooden bats...which I hope you will want.

If I'm going to exercise my right to be a pain-in-the-butt parent, what is the lightest, most stream-lined mask out there? We have tried the gameface, but dd complaned she wasn't able to see well enough adn it was too bulky. She's a pitcher, and I'm extremely worried now that she's playing 14U with the ball going faster from the circle and from the plate. She's got good reflexes, but it only takes one line drive to the face to change her life.

Bangerz fielders mask is the least intrusive aka the beak (looks like a bird beak) . Does not cover the complete face.

Ripit face mask no eye obstruction, heard good reviews about this mask.

The Rip-It defensive face mask is the best. I have found that most girls will wear it without any problems. They run about $45.

There is an aspect to this argument I have been mulling over but have never seen addressed in these debates. It is that of the effect on the batter. In the short tern if my DD nailed a pitcher square on in the head I am sure she would run to assist the pitcher rather than try to leg out extra bases. In the long term, I wonder what the effect would be on a batter that severly injured another player. Would she have a tendency to hold back on future ABs, or possibly quit the sport altogether from a fear of injuring another. I have seen this happen in both pro and amature ranks. Wasnt it Boom Boom Mancini that had a great career going until he killed a man in the ring.

At this point the choice to wear a mask is a personal one, but to claim that it only effects your DD is false.

As for mine, if she is in the dirt she will wear a mask.

New Coach brings up a good point. The psychological effects could even be more pronounced with girls. I've seen it get to pitchers when they hit a someone hard, even if it's just for a few more batters. I could only imagine how it might affect my dd if she hit a line drive to knock a girl out. I showed her a video on youtube about an hour ago of a highschool-age pitcher getting hit by a line drive in the forehead. She literally gasped when she saw it. The video had a "boing" sound, and she asked, "Why did they put that sound in there? That's not funny." If you're looking for a way to convince your dd, the name of the video is "That's Using Your Head".

Hmmm, maybe the kid's more willing to wear the mask than I thought.

Thanks for advice, guys. I think she's looking at the Rip-It. In the meantime, we'll try to find her Gameface.

After all the banter back and forth about this topic, it is very refreshing to hear so many concerned parents wanting to get their dd's face protection. Maybe this post will start a movement toward getting all dd's more protection while they play the game we all love.

The ripit is a very good comfortable mask that gives the wearer alot of protection and alot more visibility over the game face. The softball store on memorial stocks the game face. You may have to order the ripit.

My prayers and thoughts and good wishes go to the dd that was injured.
