Have not seen boomboxes used to this extreme in 12u, 14u, 16u or 18u in Indiana. But I have seen boomboxes used discreetly, and not in a way to disturb neighboring games. DD's 12u team (that would be four or so years ago) turned on a boom box during warmups as we were the first scheduled game of the day and the girls needed a little pumping up. In 18u, have seen teams turn on a boombox during pre-game warmups, but at an acceptable volume.

I don't mind if a team listens to music during a tournament if it's at an acceptable volume, but I wouldn't be upset to see a ban if it stops what borders on abuse.

I think...and I could be wrong...what the OP is referring to is some of the teams up here in NTX play them in between innings...or when a certain batter is up...and it can be loud...sometimes they play them from behind the centerfield fence (to not stirr a ruckass at the actual game) and they get loud enough for everyone to hear them on the other fields...

don't mind them for pregame warmup if suitable...but the in between innings and when certain batters are up? come on...

Well..... at DD's HS, they play music over the PA system in between innings. Of course there is not another game going on in the next field, and I guarantee they are not playing "superman that hoe" over the speakers. But I do agree... what you describe has no place during a travel ball tournament.

After reading more posts, it seems that some of you are rallying in favor of the boomboxes and allowing coaches, parents, and/or TDs to regulate their use. That opens up a lot of subjective interpretation. Plus it puts a burden on TDs to respond to complaints. They have enough to deal with and don't need to add running from field to field to ask teams to turn the music down. Then the TDs will have to deal with mad parents who don't understand why little Susie can't dance like a stripper in the dugout. Yes, the game should be fun, and it can be fun. If you need loud music to make it fun, maybe you're covering up other problems. I'll go back up north now.

GOOD POINT...also about the deal with stress and loosen up...when my DD gets older and is taking sats or other really big, important tests...you won't hear me saying...hey put on "superman dat Hoe" and loosen up...it'll make things better...sometimes pressure is just part of life. Whatever the concensus is, I believe it's up to the parents/coaches to do whatever makes there team successful at a respectable level. Honestly it has become a competition of who's got the bigger boombox... :ugeek:

No one person has the same taste, leave your music at home. if theres going to be music let it be the music played by the people running the tournament, at least then we can have a choice to attend or not. Last time i checked in order to loosen up for a game it requires stretching not your perference in the music picked by a coach. Im sure our kids will play just fine without the typical serenading of the boombox. again JMO. ;)

To those who are defending the folks bringing 50 gal ice chests on wagons with car batteries and 1000 watt stereos in them by saying they are OK as long as they are being reasonable. Please note that the OP said that these fun loving cultured folks wanted to fight when asked to turn down the music and then turned it up just to endear themselves the rest of the uncultured tournament. Gee they sound very reasonable...

You start to see less and less of this as the teams get older. The 12Us are saturated with the 10s moving up and bringing in music. Then you're always going to have those one or two nutty teams that insist on bringing their gaudy radio flyer with 12in. sub woofers blasting Lady GaGa. It's annoying at times, but if your DD can't play her A game with Superman Dat Hoe playing on the next field...hope you don't have plans past your 2-A high school team for her.

There are 2 things I find way more annoying than radios:
"Mine. Mine. Miiiiiine. Mine. Myyyyneeee. Mine. Mine."
and
Parents with cowbells/shakers
Leave that stuff in 10U please.

I know both of those teams

Makes you wonder if the parents sit around at practice and shake those cowbells to condition the girls..

I will say this about boom boxes. One day last spring in Deer Park I heard a team playing Christian songs on their boom box and no, it wasn't at a level that you could not hear yourself think. I thought that was the coolest thing in the world and even went over and thanked them for playing such nice music. Problem with that is I do not know how many people listening outside of their team knew what type of music it was. That kind of music should be OK anywhere in the world as long as it is not being played so loud that it distracts other teams on other fields.. The team "Spring Sting".

So I am getting the feeling it would be a bad time to release the schematic for the design and building blueprint for my Semi-Truck boom box. It so Big and Loud we had to add a trailer on the end to carry all the extra speakers, uses two marine batteries. Everyone in the park will know that your team is currently in between innings.

Oh one more thing..."Don't let me slip 'cause if I slip then I'm slippin"
