Boom Boxes at Softball tournaments. TD's Outlaw them.

by knucklecurve » Thu Oct 01, 2009 2:23 pm

I don't see an issue with it as long as they keep the boom boxes close to the dugouts first of all and keep the volume fairly low just so the music can mainly be heard on that field. The bigger the tournament, the more chances that these music boxes will be used.

In PCB at the world series these boxes were everywhere, I had never seen anything like it. Don't punish the girls just because there was a parent that was an A$$ about it, and playing explicit music. The TD's need to set a rule that it can only be heard at the field being played at as to not distract from the competition at an adjacent field and the music selection should be in good taste. From my experience the girls enjoy having the music around and it lightens things up in the dufout.

Milton Waddums: I was told that I could listen to the radio at a reasonable volume from nine to eleven, I told Bill that if Sandra is going to listen to her headphones while she's filing then I should be able to listen to the radio while I'm collating so I don't see why I should have to turn down the radio because I enjoy listening at a reasonable volume from nine to eleven.
Deserve's got nothin' to do with it.

Great post!
It comes down to a basic lack of respect for other people....which is all too common today

I think that most of you have lost sight of the fact that these music boxes, stereo systems, bose, etc. are not for the individual parents. THE MUSIC IS FOR THE GIRLS! How many times have you heard a girl say, "my stomach hurts", or "I'm nervous". Did it dawn on any of you brainiacs that the music helps keep the girls loose???

It is unfortunate that some parents abuse the right, but it can be managed in way that makes it enjoyable for everyone at the park. What are you going to do tell the girls that they can no longer listen to there favorite pregame song just because there were some whiny parents that complained about it. Sounds like there are some parents that need to grow up and let the kids have some fun!

The problem with your post is "manageable" who is to say what is or isn't manageable? I agree that there should be some pre-grame fun, i've seen plenty of videos where girls get in front of there dugout or there teams stands and do a little number. The problem is, somewhere along the lines these "coaches" have lost site of what it is for...not the "whiny parents"...it has now come to who's got the loudest boombox...who can play it so loud that the other team's dugout will get scared. Who can distract the other team's pregame warmup...

If this is truly for the kids and the players...then why have one that rolls?? that has two amps and can be heard from centerfield? Coaches compensating? who knows...just keep it at a respectable level and I think we are all good...problem with no one regulating (HAHA I sound like Obama) it gets out of hand...

I actually saw a boom box that was literally almost a 5 foot tall. As the guy was rolling it out to the parking lot he was playing it going through the fields during play. This was late Friday night during pool games. It reminded me of the guitar amp I used to haul around as a much younger man. I wouldn't be surprised if that's what the bottom half of it was, the speakers of guitar amp.
