2010 Bats

What's on your mind?

by DunninLA » Fri Sep 11, 2009 10:32 am

I would assume the Rain, CF4, and any other composite bat ASA approved for 2010 would have just about the same exit speed out of wrapper, and also just about the same once broken in.

Bat Balance and Size of sweet spot would really be the only non-ligislated purchase criteria. (and of course looks).

all true

Take a bat and hang it from a string tied to the knob
Take a ball peen hammer and tap up and down the barrel, listen for the change in the sound.
You will hear the sweat spot.

(and I don't even like theiir gloves... they're too floppy). i don't see Anderson selling helmets, cleats or gloves, which is fine by me... I'm glad they're sticking to their knitting. Why can't young companies just be satisfied to be extremely good at their core product? ClearView in my view messed up trying to branch into Rip It bats. Next you know Boombah will come out with a knockoff bat...PUULLEEEZZZZ.

I agree with that characterization 100% We have minor additions to our line in accessories and apparel but don't spend much time on them and I can't count how many times we have been approached to sell gloves and wood bats for that matter. every item we add to the line takes time and $ from developing our core business. someday we may be more diversified but for now we are focused on being the best bat company we can be. I think it is a better idea for two companies with complimentary lines to co-market rather than try to compete out of category. But that is just my opinion; I could be wrong.

when we say old Easton stealth I assume we're talking about the scn6b - 10...purple stealth. What about the scn5b...the -9 the gray one. Does anyone know if that bat has the same magic. A bat supplier told me this week that his last two purple sleaths went for $600. No warranty sold "as is".

i think the scn5b is the end-loaded version of the scn4b and i hear it is a very good bat, and i'm pretty sure it also has 98mph exit speed. the scn7b is the e/l version of the scn6b

How about the Old Miken Impluse. What is the exit speed of those bats and are they still legal. I think DD has three out in the building(31,32,&33) but doesn't use them.

I would agree the Schutt Lisa Fernandez(CE) bat was a hot bat.. My DD loved it.. Is Schutt making anything comparable to the Lisa Fernandez Bat??

Schutt found out the bat business is a tough go and they wised up and got out. They also lost Larry B. which hurt. So Schutt is out of bats....a smart move and something some other companies should think about. Rip It lost their key guy in Bill G. and has faded away to the dark side of the moon. Other want-a-be's will follow. Only the strong will make it like Anderson, Easton, Wilson and such because they know what they are doing.

Someday we should talk about 2010 bats and how ASA is making the game better.....or worse !

Talking exclusively about bats other than wood, Shutt doesn't make bats, Rip-it doesn't make bats, Akadema doesn't make bats, DeBeer doesn't make bats, Rawlings doesn't make bats, Nike doesn't make bats. Each of those companies and more don't make bats, they buy them and resell them. There are very few bat companies that build their bats solely in the US. The practice is called private branding. The problem with private branding is that there is an extra layer of profit margins and that makes it difficult to compete. It is also difficult to depend on your marketplace competitor to make good on production schedules when their production needs interfere. I've done it both ways and our experience with private branding was that of a house of cards.
