Really,

Are you saying the top 97 teams will avoid playing 12u because their is no competition in 12u? Are they playing up in 14u so if they lose it will not affect their status as a top 12u team?
Are they afraid of alot of the 12u teams both 97 and 98's? Because there is considerable competition in the 12u and they do not have to playup for the competition.

I guess I don't agree with your accessments. I truely believe it will be a free for all and the 2 or 3 top 12u teams will find that alot of the 12u teams are not push overs.

Avoid is not the term I would use, teams like the 97 RH and High Voltage have shown they compete well and often times beat some of the best first year '96 14u teams. I'm not talking about the top 15 second year 12U teams but the top 3-4 who are stand outs. There is competition in 12u there just won't be consistent competition from the younger '98's throughout a tournament, particularly in the fall. The top 3-4 '98s will quickly make there mark and set themselves apart and will no doubt earn a similar reputation to the top '97s. In the fall particularly for the top '97 teams nothing really changes playing 14u from a game perspective 40ft, 12in ball etc... what does change is that there are probably half as many teams in 14u if not less compared to the 78 12u teams. This means better teams, condensed talent, and consitently good tough games.

This is probably a question better suited to Marti and Gene...

I can only speak for myself. We will play many Friendlies meaning RR on Sunday's because Jr. High sports will have me in a mortal bind. The 14U division is going to be in the same boat as me. I will try and play in as many tournaments/RR as I can. Don't take this the wrong way but it does no good to go thru three lesser teams to get to one really good team. I would rather play a RR with 4 good teams than a tournament with one or two good teams because it looks like Sunday's will be the only day I can play on many weekends. I have 10 girls on my roster and 8 of those play Jr. High Sports. So there schedules will dictate what weekends I can play. I'm very disappointed because I found out earlier this week that 7 of my girls have a district Volleyball tournament the same weekend as the Ronald McDonald so I had to drop out. Before it is said and done the 98's will get their chance to play us.

I agree with you Tex. There's 75 other teams that they need to beat on regular bases before you enter 14u don't ya think?

PS. It's good to open this thread without looking at those Crusty Mountain Oysters

In general for the Fall season:

Play up - Have good compitition and every so often catch a team that just mows you down.

Play Level - Have good compitition and every so often catch a team that you just mow down.

Can't see where it would be a very hard decision to play up in 14U

Already hanging with the top 96's (and even beating them) all last year...
Goal is to make a really strong showing at 12U ASA nationals in 2010...
Strong competition makes you stronger....

Why NOT? No insult to the 98 teams and even other 97 teams. Just what's best for YOUR team. Can't imagine how that can be interpreted as hiding from the other 12U teams.

I would like to quit talking about it and get to playing softball ! It will be a change for the 98 teams but they will make adjustment and compete sooner than you think. There will be some surprises waiting for all the 12u -- 97's included. It will shake out early spring when all the hopping around is over. The well coached teams will rise to the top like always. There will be plenty of tough competition for the 97's to deal with in 12u by the time spring arrives. Good luck to all and watch out for the dark horse's that will be running lose in the 12u division. Never know who went were until they step on the field. 8-)

There are entirely too many naive 98’ parents on here. But I suppose that is understandable after coming off of a pretty successful 10U season, however that was 10U. :o :D
