DD Being Forced to Change her Number, might leave team!

What's on your mind?

>> DonnieS you have a great girl....... Be proud! <<

I am so proud of all the girls on my team - they have all been a part of developing my two dds as well as each other. Tonight, 6 of the girls on my travel team playing on our high school team play against 2 of the girls on my travel team playing on a high school team on the other side of the bay. What I know will make me proud tonight, no matter who wins, will be the spirit, fire and sportsmanship they show playing against each other.

My DD will always wear a mask or she won't pitch. There was a time when she didn't wear a mask. Then one night at a pitching practice, standing behind the catcher behind the nets, I was distracted and turned to see what someone was saying to me, and when I did my daughter's pitch was high and wasn't caught by the catcher, and I was hit square in the side of my face. Spun me around and knocked me down like a bowling pin. She was only 10, and was being timed at the moment and was only throwing 37mph. My nose was broken requiring surgery, it split one of my molars in two (couldn't be saved), swelled both of my eyes shut, I had a swollen eyeball requiring visits to special doctors watching my retina, and also had extensive swelling and bruising from my forehead to my chin. I ended up missing 3 weeks work. Technically that was a slow pitch! Can't believe I still let her pitch, but I did state clearly that from that point on she would wear a faceguard or change sports. She has always worn a Game Face and truly has had little complaint about it. Never a vision problem. Just gets a little sweaty on a 98 degree day after several games. (smile) Aren't we all? Let me say, when she began wearing one no one knew what they were. Players on other teams would be overhead saying "what is she wearing?" Now, we see them at every single tournament, not just on pitchers, but on first and third players as well. We play 14U and every time we go out I see them more and more. I tell her she started the trend

Maybe this has something to do with mom's and DD's attitude nothing like a fastball to the temple to screw things up I especially like the last comment LOL

My older daughter had the same thing happen to her. I know girls can sometimes get attached to their numbers, but they can't let that be their "security blanket". That number is nothing and to leave a team would be silly to do over a number. I do think that maybe the coach could have went about it in a different way. My DD's coach flipped a coin. They have to learn that sometimes you win and sometimes you loose. I think where you went wrong in your post is by assuming that because your daughter is the #1 pitcher, that some how makes her more important than the outfielder. My younger daughter pitches, but we have always taught her that she is on a "team". There is a reason for every single position on that field. If that pitcher misses her spot, that outfielder is there to catch that ball sailing out.

Since I failed and the insanity has gone on, I may as well join the group and jump in.

I say she gets:

- the number
- the tatoo
- the piercing
- the Sweet 16 birthday party for no less than $100k
- the implants
- the BMW
- the right to stay out all night every weekend
- and finally, the big piece of chicken!!!

To the top of this list, I'd like to add that, She gets Lil John and the east side boys, to rap the National Anthem before every game.

I've got nothing to add, just thought it would be a good thread to try out my new avatar and signature.
