diamondgal wrote:Really's post is a prime example of why the talent is so watered down in the 12s age group. Every pissed off dad thinks Susie should be pitching more or doesn't get to play a position she didn't earn and goes and starts a team or team hops to a no named team to keep them afloat.

Teams from other states carrying 13 -15 kids on a team and Texas teams have trouble keeping 10-11 happy.

Well it's nice to see and hear that someone else knows what the hell they're talking about..... I totally agree.

Well Ladies I'm back just needed a break from 10U and to prepare for 12u. I see some things never change around here. I'm going to try not to hurt too many feelings this fall ;) ;).....
I made most of my rounds on 12u try outs and I must say I haven't seen to much talent on one team to be excited about. Too many friggin teams out there. The talent is here to make about 10-12 great 97'-98' teams but like Diamondgal said lots of Daddy ball popping up everywhere. I personally think you're doing more harm than good if you don't let someone else COACH your DD unless you fall in that 1% that have that perfect relationship and can see the talent for what it is. If you really want to see where you DD stands keep "Honest" stat's and you'll see.
All in all I think that the 98' 10u teams that did well last year will do well again this year.

'What' you want girls to compete for there position within there own team ?? Now that is a fresh concept ! So if dd boots a ball or two you should replace her with another girl, and try to coach her before she goes back in the game ? 'WOW' I have never herd of such a thing. The girls that get better want competition and parents should want there kid to be pushed by the girls on her team. The problem comes with parents or coaches with rose colored glasses, and there dd always has an excuse or her mistakes are over looked. If there are no consequence for mistakes on the field the growth of a player will take much longer, or be determined when the player decide they want to get better. Take the shelter away from most girls and they will excel at a much faster rate. When they get to the older ages and the talent has condensed girls will get better or wash. No parent can shelter them from that. Might as well give them the real picture at the younger ages as well. The problem with this concept at younger ages coaches can not keep parents happy if dd is not in the game 24/7. So they keep the roster at ten to eleven girls to ensure enough playing time for all. Leaves coaches with very few options if a player is making mistakes in the field. ;)

Hammer, I understand what you are saying, but you also have to take into consideration, that some girls do not develop maturity and physical skills at the same pace when they are younger. That's why it is important to put them in a position to just play the game and gain experience so that when the maturity and physical skill kicks in, they are still able to compete. You have to "grow" their love of the game before anything or you will be one of those posting on here that your 15 yr old decided today that she does not want to play softball anymore because she's been being pushed so hard since she was 6 yrs old.

So....... Who was at who's tryouts this weekend?
Any confirmation on any of the rumors about player movement?
I heard RedHots had 8 new prospects show up. Did they loose any one from last year?

Did 98 TPS have tryouts yet? Are they returning all players?

I will agree with you, that is what league is for. I will agree that each girl may need to be handled a bit different but they need the feeling of pressure from other players. Its better than screaming at them or embarrassing them on the field during the game. Coach is another word for teacher. On most teams the coaches are under more pressure than the girls that are playing. Teaching the game and motivating girls to play beyond there own expectations is what I consider good coaches to do. While conducting there self in a positive and encouraging manner. We are talking about TRAVEL BALL right ? One of the big problems is that girls at younger ages are playing for different reasons. Some are playing to have fun and try and win, some already have expectations of playing at a college level, and some are playing because mom or dad want them to live out there dreams of playing collage ball. As the girls get older the ones that are serious keep playing the majority wash before they hit high school. I think by 12u the girls that are serous should be put in a position to earn there position on the field without it given to them by there parent. And when they don't perform well they should be COACHED to get them threw the rough spots and help them improve. We are talking travel Ball right?
