Kidz n Sports/ So Cal Pumas car accident at nationals

Last week on Kidz "n" Sports, I interviewed a couple of tournament directors from some of the ASA championship tournaments. First, Lee Ann Witt talked to us about the ASA 16u Western Nationals held in Phoenix, AZ. Following Lee Ann, Sally Commerford checked in with a report on the ASA 18A Nationals in Las Vegas, NV. Sally finished the show telling us about a very emotional chain of events that occurred on the final day of the event. I received more information after talking with Puma's Manager Novric.

The Southern California Pumas 18u travel team were on their way to a 8:00 AM showdown with eventual tournament champions, Tampa Mustangs. After they left their hotel, there were getting ready to turn off Flamingo Road and onto I-15 North to head to the fields. A driver, who apparently was a bit enebriated, swerved around cars and ran a red light before plowing into the Puma's team van. Luckily, nobody was killed. Four Pumas and the coach had to be taken to the hospital for treatment.

To hear the rest of the story, tune into Kidz "n" Sports today (Monday) as my scheduled guests will be Puma Head Coach Jim Wike (tentative pending surgery this morning on his broken hand) and Elyria Sundogs Head Coach Duane Sunagel, the Puma's opponents following the accident. The Sundogs allowed their game to be postphoned to allow the Pumas to play, putting a national championship shot and future berth on the line.
