FLYING WITH BOOMBAH BAT BAGS

What's on your mind?

by lhpmom » Sun Jul 12, 2009 8:26 am

DD going to Normal, Illinois for 12U nationals. First time we had to fly with the bat bag! Has any one had any problems with the airlines concerning bat bags. My daughter has the Boombah Beast Bag that we planned on checking with her bats inside. She plans on trying to take her Boombah Bat Pack on board as a carry on. We are flying US Airways and Delta. Any experience pro or con is appreciated!
Thanks in advance :)

Is anybody driving..?? Coach with a trailer and equipment..??

Better to give someone a few $$ for gas and haul the bag , than take the chance of checking the bag..and anything bad happening..JMHO

I wish someone was driving, but were coming from the Central Coast of California! We plan on checking her bats in with the beast bat bag filled with the majority of her clothes and putting glove, cleats and helmet with her unforms in with her bat (back) pack that she will carry on.

Yea a bit far to drive..How is coach getting equipment there..??

Well , I have only checked DD's bag once and had no bad results. As Spaz said , wrap the bats and great idea to put all uni's and most importantly cleats in the bag..Someone always forgets cleats..LOL..We packed an extra set this last trip..Not familiar with the bat bag..DD's bad had bats on the side..we just wrapped them and put them inside with everything else..came out fine..

Delta charges $50-100 each way for oversized bag (yes bat bag falls in this category).

Better to take to local UPS store & ship direct to your hotel with Insurance. Call your hotel and tell them to expect & hold the delivery for you. Much cheaper than the airlines, you can track it, & don't have to worry about damages. Make sure to properly wrap your UPS package before shipping.

Another option is to search internet for transport companies (ex: there are transport companies that will pick up golf bags/carriers from your home and deliver to your destination for a modest fee). I am sure they could transport softball equipment for the right price.

Take it to the UPS store early and have it shipped to your hotel. The hotel will receive it for you. and you can pack it full of all kinds of stuff. not expensive and much much more convenient. I do it with all kinds of stuff now since the airlines got cheap and started charging for extra bags.
