Use water and replace electrolyes as needed.

Reyes's Syndrome ? ... Is that like having too many Reyes's on a team ... like the Mets have Argenis Reyes and Jose Reyes ? I think the Reye Syndrome thing is associated with Chicken Pox and Aspirin ... or am I mistaken ?

Any kind of viral infection will do. Also the age to worry about this keeps getting older. Baby aspirin is not for babies anymore.
Ice cream?! When the f**k did we get ice cream?!

Drink 60-80 oz of water every day, tourney or not, for general health. Very good for health, hydration, and for those with a few extra pounds - weight loss, everything beneficial.

On tourney days drink Water water and more water. Drink more water. Then for good measure, drink more water. If you want, Grab a Sports drink of your choosing for lunch, then drink water water water water water and a little more water.

Then start over.

Good luck trying to get your DD to drink Pedialyte - it is extremely bitter/strong. As for G-2 Gatorade, it has artificial sweeteners in it, which is the last thing an athlete should ever be consuming. Good ole water, with a couple of sports drinks in between. Drown your DD the day before, and the morning of, and they should be okay. As a Florida resident and the parent of 2 athletes, keeping them hydrated before and during the games has always been a trial, but our kids know how dangerous heat exhaustion is and usually drink when told. If your DD is between games (and has enough of a break), a slushee/icee/slurpee does wonders to cool them down.

Even though your DD will probably say that you are crazy, monitor how much they're sweating and even worse, how much they're peeing. If they are no longer sweating (and should be considering the high temperatures), they may already be into heatstroke. If they don't pee at all during the day, get more fluids into them.

As everyone keeps saying, water, water, water. We also add electrolytes to our DD's water bottle. You can go to most Nutrition stores and pick up a box of Electrolyte packs that you add to any water bottle. This works great as most Sports drinks have sugar and artificial flavors in them that you dont want.

Seriously I have heard aspirin help with over heating, something like it thins the blood opens arteries or something like that.

How about mice on PRESTONE? Do they overheat?

I'm not a Dr but I do triathlons and this works for me, 5 days before my triathlon I start drinking half my body weight in OZ of water per day to keep hydrated, so if your 200lbs you drink 100oz water per day. good luck

Pedialyte also comes in dissolvable strips, but they normally get the same reaction from my girls. It's just not very good. Most of what has been said here is true. Your girls should really be drinking water regularly anyway. They should also have a constant flow of water throughout the entire tournament. What they use to hydrate is not nearly as important as hydrating itself. Good old fashioned tap water works just fine. They just need to actually drink it. I write a blog on health as it's related to fastpitch softball. Here is an entry that focuses on avoiding tournament fatigue with emphasis on dehydration.

I am a believer that everything we need on this wacko planet is ( or was ) available in its natural form ... and we just need to be smart enough to find it ....
