Interesting coaching strategy........

One coaching staff from one of the top organizations in Texas held a 2 hour practice recently. Nothing interesting there obviously. But what they did in those two hours was sure interesting. They spent the first 1 1/2 hours ripping the team for their shortcomings. For lack of production. Lack of leadership. Lack of fundamentals. Lack of belief in the coaching staff. If it's the middle of June and those are issues the team is having, can you blame the girls for not believing in the coaching staff? Sounds like lack of coaching is holding this team back. One interesting side note, this coaching staff also coached one in one of the top organizations in Texas last year and they were replaced because the parents felt the team was underachieving. Hmm....... Anyone else see a pattern here?

Or maybe the team just sucks. Coaching is only one part of a winning combo, the team has to have the players with talent too.

Lefty, I will agree with that thought. But these coaches were the ones that put this team together. So if they are not bad coaches can you make the argumment they are poor evaluators of talent?

Well that's very true too.
Maybe they all had a great one day tryout and now the coaches are ticked at themselves and taking it out on the girls.
Maybe these are the only (or best) girls that should up for tryouts.
Maybe the girls just feel they're never gonna win anything so they're giving up and that's what the coaches are upset about. New teams struggle (I am assuming this is a new team), we all know that, sometimes it takes a few seasons to get the right players and to get them all working as a single unit.
Sometimes the girls just need a swift kick in the A$$ to get motivated.

That's why I always advise people to stay away from start-up teams.....they're never deep enough to compete with the established teams....and the coaches in this situation are probably correct. The team is probably full of half-serious rec ball players or kids with little travel ball experience. For the kids that are legit, finish the season and continue to work on your game.....then go find an established team for next year...( and parents, just so you know, the days of your little Susie being coddled by coaches are pretty much over by 16u).

Jag, I believe the team DILL is talking about has players with a lot of A ball experience.They are 2 players short of being a top level team.With the right leadership they will be playing in 14u Nationals next year.

Sound just like my DD coach from last year. He yelled at all of them, but mostly mine, threw things (at mine) & kicked a bucket of balls every game. Then he wondered why he could not get the team to win. Had a "do as I say, not as I do" coaching strategy. Most have moved on (mine included), some are still hanging around for the abuse.

It sounds as if you do not agree with the coaching staff, maybe it is time to shop around for fall. Highly unlikely the attititude of the coaching staff will change unless they are replaced. Good luck!
