Gift bags for Nationals

Ok... newbie to Nationals this year..... I am hearing we are supposed to have gift bags for the first team that we play. Yes or No? This is 10u so what kind of things should we put in the bags? How many should we have? Coaches included? What kinds of things did you put in your bags previous years. I am trying to get an idea so I know what to tell my parents.

Spaz - BonezMom also asked about whether to have a gift bag for the coaches? This year I get to help put the gift bags together so I am curious if you did a gift bag for the coach?

Each of the times that we had to do gift bags for nationals, we bought the clylinder shaped small personal coolers from Walmart/Target (blue and white, red and white). We filled them with seeds, gum, candy and hair thingys. They seemed to be well received and we got to see them being used later in the week. We also bought a $20 or $25 first aid kit for the coaches. Total cost to each player was around $10 depending on what we added.

I liked the small coolers/water jugs. We did that one year and it was great. Also consider things like team pins if you are doing them, bubbles, disposable cameras, tee-shirts from your state, softball soxs, small photo albums. You can get cute things at big lots and the 99 cent store.

How many bags do you suggest to make for the players? I would hate not to make enough.

We usually did 14 or 15 or whatever number the tournament chief said was the number to give. The two times we did it, we went home with extra coolers because most teams only brought 12 players.

We always make 20, that way there is enough always. I do believe you can carry 20 players on a roster. But usually no one does, so its enough for coaches too!!

If you are exchanging with a team that has more players then yours... it is also a nice touch to give the coaches a few extra of your team pins to pass out to the girls that problem didn't get one. I know we did this in the past and the other teams was very appreciative. Especially in the younger ages where pins are a big deal.
