Should the coach regret not protesting

H.S. CIF playoffs... girl hits a 2run HR over the fence, just before the batter reaches home plate, a teamate off the bench high fives her. The opposing coach walks out to talk to the ump. ump turns around and calls the batter out. resulting in 1 run scored.....is that the correct call?


If so, I see alot of coaches high five their girls after they go yard rounding the bases.

I knew in ASA it would be an attrocious call but I wanted to reread the rule for NFHS before I answered. Having done so, the rule reads the same and it is equally an attrocious idiotic call in NFHS as it would be in ASA and fully protestable.

The rule (ASA and NFHS) is that members of the offense other than another runner cannot PHYSICALLY ASSIST the runner.

On protest I think you could even make argument if there was physical assist (which obviously a high 5 is not) since the ball is DEAD on a home run.

NFHS does not have a play in the case book.

At any rate, bad call.

I believe in the NCAA it would be the correct call if the team had be previously warned the first time it happened.

But is there a rule pertaining to where offensive players can be / have to be. Once the ball is dead, can they all come out and high five a girl who tripled? Or walked?

Where is the line drawn on HR's - as in over the fence = no prob, no fence = it's okay to wait at the plate if the BR is obviously going to be safe?

theres just no rule about it.

I think there is a protocol developed from missing bases, getting appealed, and losing a home run... so you need your runner touching home.

Thee is a rule in NFHS regarding players crowding around a base and interferring but that would be in a live ball situation.

Personnally, I dont care.

I think its lame when people over react over in the park home runs... other than that, its all good.

In the park ... as a Coach ... I don't want my players out of the dugout ... on deck batter or the last one crossing the plate talking to the gal coming home ... that's it ... I also don't like the high fiving prior to the gal crossing the plate on a dinger ... after she touches the dish ... have at it ...
