Talk the talk, but don't walk the walk

by TEXASGLORY » Wed Apr 29, 2009 6:39 pm

I am projecting 4 years down the road. Whitney has had a great freshman campaign and will only get better. She has great coaching at Baylor and is a tough hard working young lady. She outworks her competition and it shows on the field.

When does "A" actually become relavant in DFW? I hear all these 10/12/14U coaches talking about how they don't play B ball this and they are A ball that but none of the A tourneys ever make. And how about this. THere is an A tournament 9/11-9/13 in Keller with 5 teams in it. Here is a list of some A ball teams playing that weekend in an open tournament against a bunch of young B teams:

97 Texas Glory
96 Texas Elite
96 Texas Lady Longhorns
Texas Reign
Texas Legend

You take those 5 and the 5 that are in there and I gotta think you would have a decnent outing. (Don't know about some of these teams, but still)
Plus, with 10 teams in an A wouldn't you think a bunch of other A teams might decide to play too?
Another thing. All 5 of those teams are traveling FARTHER to play in Forney (except maybe the Longhorns which is about in the middle). This is just the most recent one I found, but I see it all the time. So at what age group do you see A teams walking the walk instead of just pretending to play A ball?

Very few walk the walk, they talk more than any. They find Open and "A" tournaments to play in with not all of the best teams in it so they say look at our VTD archives and ribbons we have. Down here in the south alot more Friendlies being played with all of the top notch teams playing for better competition not the plastic dust collector. Dodging the "BIG A" nats for Southern Nats is talkin the talk, not walkin the walk.

Still early for fall season, most teams have not even had their try outs yet. 14U teams will be working around Jr. High and High School volleyball schedules. I am sure that some teams have not signed up for many tournaments yet.

The good news is that it looks like that most tournaments that are being posted are open and "A" tournaments very few "B" tournaments. I hope these organizations that are hosting these tournaments will maintain that trend.

sbfan-he just said those 5 teams were playing in another tournament that weekend so I guess they arent working around volleyball. they all get a better chance of not playing each other if they play in a big "open" tourney. and think about what would happen if they went to that tournament and lost to one of those young teams with less VTD ribbons after talking "the talk"
maybe some of the real a teams will sign up after tryouts but those ones you listed are

My bad..dallasFP I thought he had listed the 5 teams playing in Keller did not realize those 5 teams were playing in open tourney in Forney instead.
Oh well, hopefully with more open and "A" tourneys this fall we don't have to travel all over Texas and Oklahoma to find a tourney to play in like the past four years (96).

It's all good. watcher is just trying to stir the NTex pot. That guy is from Houston or Galveston or somewhere down there anyway. Quit spending so much time on VTD and get a life watcher

Bad example watcher:
97 Texas Glory - daddy ball
96 Texas Elite - rec team
96 Texas Lady Longhorns - must be trophy hunting cause they r ok
Texas Reign - probably just still A cause VTD aoutimaticaly lists u as A
Texas Legend - b ball
