Pitcher hit by line drive

What's on your mind?

by Tucson » Tue Apr 28, 2009 9:35 am

If the bats aren't going to change, change the ball. I would think that something between a softball and a Jugs soft toss ball would work. I can hit that soft toss ball almost as far as the softball.

I am not sure that the 8U ball is any better than anything else, though. It is like a "super ball,"

Someone on here could invent a ball, I bet.

Mike,

Do you work for Schutt? Sure sounds like it.

I live in the real world where people can look at things that happened and analyze who did or did not benefit from actions that took place. Schutt makes money....ASA makes more money....thats a win-win for them. If they grandfather the existing masks.....Schutt sales suffer....ASA makes less money. Its pretty simple, Mike, and I'm quite surprised that you don't get it.

BTW: Your bat strawman is a joke.

If a tree wins an argument in the woods....would anyone in Delaware hear it?

I had heard the ASA was considering making it mandatory for the corners and the pitcher? Has anyone heard anything on this??

WOW! I never thought that my simple ques. would create such debate with insults and derogatory comments. The question just required a simple "Yes" or " No" answer. So, I take it that it's a NO.

I also, didn't think my parenting skills would come into question by all you Perfect parents out there with ALL the Right answers. So, here are the facts; my dd still wears her mask from time to time depending on the team(s) she plays against. She also FULLY understands the risk in not doing so. Now that my dd's older, 14U, she would like to wear it more but can't. She is allergic to the padding material that rests on her face, causing acne. I'm not talking a pimple here and there, I'm talking severe...requiring dermal treatments.

So, for all you genius' and Gods out there ..."MTR"...What would you do? We have spent a lot of time, effort and money in working with doctors to come up with a solution so that my dd can wear this mask and dosen't have to live with permanent scarring, that has it's own personal and social issues.

Also, I was watching the Big 10 Network last week, (Indiana vs. Purdue I think?) I saw 2 players wearing masks. Thats 2 players in major D1 programs on national tv wearing a mask. Mabey as these girls get older we will see more of them(masks) at that level which will set an example for the younger players. My DD has been wearing a gameface for 3 years and won't take the infield w/o it. Be safe.

Does an OHSA mandate denote that the company doesn't care about their workers enough to make them comply with safety standards? Does a company mandate suggest that the workers are too stupid to use their safety equipment? Just asking.

I noticed nobody wants to suggest lowering the bat standards to those of a wooden bat....which would solve the problem and reveal the kids that actually can hit. The dimensions of the field were not set up for the equipment the players are now using. Happens all the time in golf....they just make the courses longer and add more hazards when the equipment outgains the game. Something needs to be done here....and just protecting a kid's face won't do it.

Actually yes it does mean that. If companies gave a crap about their employees there would be no OSHA or unions, they were started for a reason (although unions have out
lived their purpose).

Yes it does.

I do agree that all parents should govern their own kids and make them wear protective equipment not required but it would be nice if an organization such as ASA would get off their a$$ and mandate the obvious as well.

Already on the market and being tested in the SP game across the country by ASA. Hopefully, the ball will move into the FP game. It is a .50 COR/ 275 compression ball that travels and lasts well, but there have been reports that pitchers have taken line shots to the shins and barely suffered a bruise. Supposedly, the ball returns the skill to the batter. Those who can hit with power will still get their HRs, but it will be the player, not the equipment that causes the ball to leave the park.

Actually, this thread had nothing to do with the question above, the this comment:

I wish they would make it mandatory.

Get a light-weight lacrosse helmet. It will cost between $100-$200, but is worth it for your child.

LMAOWIOAB ! ... So I have this guy working for me from Poland, in the US on a work visa ... Mowing grass at a commercial building under construction .... he comes back one day and says ... What is 'Oh Sh*t' ? ... I said " well, you hit hand with hammer and say , Oh Sh*t .... you make big mistake and say Oh Sh*t ... " he said "no no no" ... Oh Sh*t not Oh Sh*t ... so I splained again and again until he wrote on a piece of paper 'OSHA' ... and handed me the note the OSHA inspector gave him about wearing work boots instead of sneakers ... guess the inspector finally got wore down trying to get him to understand ... much like a parent, myself included, may get wore down by a child not wanting to wear safety equiptment ... BUT ... I personally have told all my dd's " If you don't want anything to happen, don't do anything "

OSHA was created in 1970, apparently while congress was experimenting with acid. It is a beaurocratic hammer for liberals who wish to put frivilous expensive requirements on american employers .....all the while wondering why american businesses are moving their factories overseas.

Unions are shrinking faster than Costanza's unit in a bucket of dry ice.

This woulld be great. When my older DD played, she was a corner girl, the balls came hard and fast, but just not like today. My younger DD, now in 12's, as a Pictcher and 1B, it scares the heck out of me to hear these stories!

I don't disagree that most of the governments creations were brought forward while testing hallucionagenic drugs, apparently they have new ones to test each year. OSHA provides minimum standards that are required in most work places and in of themselves are a joke but the minimum standards they have put forth have saved many lives. The unions on the other hand......... the UAW may end up owning a 55% stake in Chrysler as an agreement for concessions and a percentage of GM as well. They will either grow rapidly if this happens or file for bankruptcy because their company(ies) failed. Probably the latter since they want their members to be paid the same amount as the CEO. If it happens it will be interesting to see how the majority owner in the corporation negotiates with itself......

All I'm saying is that comapnies/organizations have to put in safety regs and be proactive often times because people aretoo stupid to protect themselves much less their children. Masks are an obvious necessity, the key is to not go overboard.
