Has anyone from ASA ever been to Midland Texas? Other than some flat ground and a bunch of gas / oil wells, what is 80 some odd teams going to do there for entertainment in between games?

Hey, I agree there d*** sure isn't anything else to do in Midland except play softball. Teams will be able to play the games and rest back at the hotel. Hopefully your team will get one of the few nice ones in the area.

If you are looking for activities other than softball for the girls you may want to go to Flordia.

You can always teach your girls the fine art of cow tipping and snipe hunting. And if you don't already have hotels, you may be sleeping with the cows.

I asked DD's and they both stated that some girls found a bowling alley, Others went to the airport and watched the planes takeoff & land, Might be a theater around but was not confirmed. Now with so much to do, It kind of makes it hard to keep your mind on softball

President Bush's presidential library is at College Station not Midland/Odessa. Son's library will be at Southern Methodist in Dallas. Sorry. There isn't much here. There is a nice movie theater. LOL. There will be a Midland Rockhounds minor league baseball game on Friday and Saturday night. This is a nice minor league experience.

We found a air museam that had working WWII planes in a big hanger that was pretty cool. Not really a girl thing but good for the boys.

>> Cow tipping? <<

Just so you guys know, that land out there takes a lot of acres to support a cow/calf. I spent a lot of weekends over about 5 years in the Midland area, though I dont remember seeing much in the way of critters, unless you count rattlesnakes and buzzards.

The first time I went out there, what I remember is that it stinks too, there is a sulpher smell always there. Lots of churches, pretty understandable "Please God, get me out of here."

I always figured it this way, after God created the earth, and was so proud at what a good job he did, specially with Texas, He looked down at Midland/Odessa and felt so guilty, He pumped it full of oil to give the folks there something to do.

(The Bible according to me)

You probably are right, I was there about 4 years ago and I was in Midland/Odessa and drove there. It was close enough to drive to, but don't recall exactly where it is. I still have a pic of the brown Midland sign "Home of GWB" .. maybe thats why I got confused as to where it is.

George Bush's childhood home is on the grounds of UT Permian Basin in Odessa. It has recently suffered from an arson so is not open to the public, but there is a presidential museum of some sort right next to it. There are several theaters in the area. No water skiing for 100 miles. I live in Odessa and would be happy to supply participants with any info I can.
Luck is simply preparation meeting opportunity
