Inappropriate Music

What's on your mind?

by Nzane » Mon Mar 23, 2009 6:27 pm

LOL!! Not quite sure what you mean Skarp. I'm just saying though. There are 1000's of songs from the 70's, 80's and 90's that have lyrics that aren't, how shall I say it, wholesome? I personally dont feel my daughter will grow up to be a bad person, listening to "soulja Boy", or watching R rated movies. Thats all.....

This really boils down to a case of respect and consideration for others. Without talking about the lyrics, which are just fine for some and entirely offensive for others regardless of genre, I find it extremely annoying when the music is so loud that I am forced to hear it. If one can play the music (really a euphemism these days) such that those who do not want to hear it are not forced to hear it, I am content.

How would it be if one team had Hank Williams blaring at 120 dB in one dugout while the other team had Vanilla Ice at the same volume in their dugout? If one source of music is acceptable why not more than one? Could that be considered contentious? I would expect some words to be exchanged at the very least.

Oh wait, that's been around forever too. Or at least since our parent's generation came of age.

So lyrics suggesting that one should wait until marriage before putting out is demeaning to women? That's definitely a creative argument.

Well, the lyric objectifies that part of the anatomy found only on females as "it". Nice.

Then goes on to suggest that "it" is available if you marry her. All well and good until you consider that marriage for the sake of sex hardly forms the cornerstone for a long lasting union. (Divorce lawyers must love this song!)

And, when repeated by enough teenage girls around the country (as it probably is every Friday night these days), will lead to a spate of ill-planned teenage weddings, followed by unplanned pregnancies, unwanted children in fatherless homes, and bulging welfare rolls.

So in Beyonce's world, we'll have an army of hormonally charged teens becoming "serial grooms", leaving the women to fend for themselves whenever the guy wants "it" from some other girl.

That, or she's subversively promoting the polygamist leanings the Mormon Church.
Don't worry about tomorrow. You did that yesterday.

And, Eric Clapton's "I Shot The Sheriff", isnt bad? And why is that? Cuase he "he didnt shoot the Deputy?" Or because he shot a sheriff? So, is that better than being a "Cop Killer?" What I'm saying here is, most of us grew up with the same kind of songs, and most of us turned out pretty good.

Ha!, I KNEW you had a Mullet in the 80's! :o

Exactly what I do when I am on the road or driving into the grocery store and a low-rider comes up with a ghetto pig in it, running rap crap at 120 db, I keep a Hank Williams and a Patsy Cline cd handy, I park next to the pig and crank up Patsy so loud that it will almost drown out the trash. In our town there are laws against the disturbing the peace but since this is predominatly one ethnic group here that violates it, the ordinance is never enforced.

When you guys are talking about the music you grew up with, I am probably 20 years older than most of you, our dirty music in the 50's and 60's was Louie Louie and what we imagined the lyrics really were. But even then, Dad would pop a knot on my head if I had that on.

You know, I hate to say it, but times have changed. Whether you like it or not, we are NOT in the 50's or 60's. Maybe there weren't bad lyrics back then. So what? That was 40-50 years ago. What kind of car did you drive back then? Do you expect your Daughter to drive the same>? If not, why not? And, does you DD have a cell phone? YOU didnt have them back then, why should she? I agree, you shouldnt blair music in the opposite dugout, especially if other games are going on. But, its NOT because of the lyrics.
