It's all a business for everyone. The sooner you recognize that the better. Focus on who earns your money and gives your kid what she needs in terms of instruction, recruiting, etc and the easier it gets. Some kids will always get things free or at a discount. Some get it because most coaches still have a semblance of humanity in them for kindness. But most get freebies because they are really good players, and the best attract the best, and again from a business sense, it makes sense, it has a positive return on their investment way beyond the price of a bat. I used to be a hater because I was around when it wasn't all business. But now I kick myself cause I missed that boat. These guys used to do this stuff for free. But why? They have skill set that allows them to earn peoples money by providing them a service/training that MIGHT get their kid a college scholarship. The key is "earn", and if they aren't earning your money, revaluate if its your kid or them, and then shit or get off the pot. It ain't for everyone, not everyone deserves a trophy.

While I agree with the premise of your post, it saddens me that the game has come to this. It's lunatic parents that feed this beast....all year long. Placing 9 year old children into indentured servitude, working them 6 and 7 days per week for years at a time.....feeding the beast thousands and thousands of dollars....for what? Their kid might get a shot at a college scholarship......they might be one of the 1.6% of players that get a D1 ride.....partial likely. The vast majority might be better off just saving the money and having their kid play recreationally. The money they save would pay for college. But the insanity continues as the parents justify their actions, as they will surely do in responding to this post.
