Group CATCHING Lessons - Waste of time - YES?

What's on your mind?

I would take former players that still have a passion for the game and are helping the next generation experience what they went through over internet trolls like you anyday.

Heaven forbid that they are able to make money at it. Why is that so distasteful to you. Do you perform your janitorial duties for free?

Congrats on earning the annual Heybucket asshat award for your contributions.

Well your Congrats on earning the annual Heybucket asshat award sounds nice, but that hasn't officially been announced yet. If it does happen, I would like to thank all of the delusional parents who think these mega groups sessions are making their daughters better, and especially Jenn, for identifying and praying on their emotions over common sense.

Look, I give the girl a lot of credit, she was a bullpen catcher for 3 years in college, sitting behind a much better starting catcher. She started for really only ONE year (senior), and now somehow convinces the masses that not only is she the best catching instructor, but she also convinces them that she is so good, she can give GROUP lessons and these players need to attend these lessons to get better!

This is a money grab in the worst way.
I understand that those out there taken by this charade feel obligated to defend her, otherwise you look like a fool for being the "sucker" that you are.

Now, the next time you take your little Suzy to one of these mass sessions, just keep an eye on her. Watch if the things she is doing are actually correct and especially when she's not. See if the watchful eye of your catching guru "see's all".
Now, look at the drills and how they correlate to the game (here is a clue, "Hot Foot" is the most ridiculous and waste of time drill, out there).

Keep em coming Boys! I can do this all year....

beginner to Elite is a broad band of knowledge individual to group obviously a different Dynamic and time spent per student with the instructor.
how much people pay for the instruction they are receiving can only be measured in the growth of the student not the cost of the dollar. some people need a group to inspire them others like one-on-one instruction. it shouldn't bother anyone else what a family chooses to do!
You have many choices
Get educated....for instance...
there are some people teaching who have never played before and are students of the game just like athletes who have learned and figured out what works best for them. they all have gathered knowledge through different resources!!! get educated!!!
there are a variety of instructors to choose from,
ask questions....gather as much knowledge as you can and find what instructor and mechanics work best for you!

So, along this line of thinking, you're saying that every head coach of every high school and college program that is a male who never played women's fast pitch doesn't know what they are doing and are accepting money for something they know nothing about?

So, you also follow the lazy thinker's mantra of "Those who can't do, teach"?

The reality is that you as a parent have to find the best person to connect with your DD, be it a parent, a male coach, a female coach, a former player, a nationally ranked coach, or an unknown. It's about what works best for your DD, not what someone else thinks of the coach's credentials. If you do your homework as a parent and find that good fit, and then watch to see if translates into better play in games, then you did your job. People make lots of $$ in this sport because too few parents do this.

I can't speak for Turbo, but your straw man is ridiculous. The point being made is that you have dads of daughters who attended their kids' pitching lessons now charging people to teach their kid how to pitch. These people can and do teach horrible mechanics which can injure a child.

The reality really is that these people need to be outed. Idiotic parents can/will make up their minds about spending money on them and they will either survive or not. OBTW: Lots of these morons can make a connection with your daughter and smile gleefully as they ruin her pitching arm.

If you can't speak for Turbo, why are you? How can you say what the point is of the post? The point I get - in all caps, BTW, is that if you didn't DO, you can't TEACH.

And I think the OP was talking about a former player's catching lessons, not Dads teaching pitching, but what do I know.....

......is not much. The point is obvious , though not to the degree that you apparently can comprehend. The softball community is now inundated with the instructors that Turbo describes. Parents are being bilked out of their money by some very dangerous people who have very little knowledge of the skill they are being paid to instruct and they could well be damaging young girls' bodies permanently.

 Inundated? So, the parents are either too stupid to realize a group lesson isn't as good as a private or semi-private, or too stupid to recognize an outright bad coach. Got it. Thanks for the life lesson......what have I done without you?

59,

Parents are too stupid to realize that playing all year long is detrimental to their child's health. They think that kids can make decisions about the college they want to attend before the child has her first menstrual cycle. They think the amount they spend on a bat is directly proportional to the improvement in their kid's hitting ability. They think their 13 year old can play 18 Gold.

So, yeah, I think they are too stupid....at this point in time....to make any kind of cognitive decision regarding what is best for their daughter when it comes to travel softball and especially when it concerns money hungry "instructors."

I don't know what you did without me, either. Hang around, though.....you might learn something.

Sam/Turbo/SoftballJerk,

If you're not part of the solution then you're part of the problem.

As for me, I don't feel the need to save all of these poor lost girls from their "stupid" parents. I'm totally happy just minding my own business and not concerning myself with how someone else is raising their kid. In fact, I'm fine with being part of the perceived problem.

Also, the common theme between each of your threads seems to be the money factor. If you are short on dough why don't you start teaching some lessons so you can have some extra walking around cash.
