Heybucket love it or hate it

So I have been holding off on this post for quite some time. I get a lot of people emailing me and seeing me on the fields that love Heybucket. Thanking us for helping find the right team or tourney etc or just for a having a place to go to see what's going on in the softball world.

I also get a few hate emails, threats and even some emails from lawyers, and they pretty much all say the same thing. The reason I am posting this now is because I received an email from a single mom, father wants nothing to do with the kid or softball. She said she had heard all these great things about Heybucket so she registered. She said she was hesitant to post anything or ask a question because she didn't know much about softball and also heard that everyone on the bucket would tear you apart if they think you asked a stupid question.

I don't sugar coat anything and I make no excuses. She is 100% right. I have seen it on here and many other sites over and over again. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and you do not have to agree with them. Their is a way to express yourself without making someone look like an moron. I'm not talking about the loud mouth cocky guy who deserves to be torn into. I'm talking about people asking a question or giving their opinion and next thing you know you have 10 guys making them feel like Charlie Brown.

It's easy to hide behind a computer screen and rip someone, I have done it in the past more than once to say the least. All I ask if someone doesn't know the softball world like you think you do inside n out, help them out first before you crucify them for asking a question that you might think was stupid.

I started posting my real name a few years ago to help encourage myself to behave as I would if I were standing in front of the person with whom I was talking. It's just too tempting to hide behind your screen name and lambaste someone just because you're having a bad day and disagree with them.

If someone thinks I am out of line then I probably need reminded that I'm stepping out of line. I've acted like an ass more than once in my life and I'm sure I'll slip again, but I can take the criticism if warranted,

I hope most of the posters here take your advice (I know some won't). Thanks for putting up with all the hate mail and ambulance chasers so that we can have a place to talk about our girls and their softball exploits and adventures.

As a newbie to HB and Softball in general (only at it for 3 years) I get where she is coming from... I think the new age of computers and forums let people get a little out of control at times... People that want to help will... Thanks for putting up with the BS to provide a great site...

I think you should kick the offending posters off the board.

You may be getting feedback from newbies who don't like the advise they are getting after THEY ask for it. You likely don't hear a peep when the minions on the board tell the newbies that they are fine with 12 year olds playing 120 games per year and playing all year long. They want to hear that it's OK for their DD pitcher to throw 4 games during a weekend tourney.

My screen name is my name and one has only to look at my profile to know who I am.

That said, I know they couldn't be referring to me.

I wish I had discovered Heybucket much earlier in the process. There is so much knowledge and experience here. I think it is a great place for a newbie to learn from different points of views and experience and to get "real" advice. Too many times they are too dependant on what they here at the ballfield or at showcase- too many times what they hear are half-truths and myths. HB has emphasized the importance of education, hard work, and certainly does not show the "process" through rose-colored glasses. Here you get blunt answers based on opinion, experience, and observation. Even Sam offers some good advice.(I know I should not encourage him ) I never would have heard of PGF if not for Hey Bucket. HB shos there is softball outside of our own regions.

Yes the HB crowd can be harsh on Newbies- many time the Newbies can come on a bit too confident and brash(I was guilty of that and Sam gave me a proper slamming) I think the Newbies that get slammed the most are those with outrageous boasts(ie Rae Rae) or who have no understanding of the rules. Going through the gauntlet of first posts is part of the HB rite of passage.

It would be nice if more parts of the country were represented(but thats true in Softball too!)

I am also very glad I found HB and have made several friends from it...GOOD FRIENDS!!!
And I am thankful that Uno puts up with me...and even spoke to me in public...(*INSPITE* of my slight accent)
And if I am considered an 'offensive person' I apologize...I only tease the old(er) heads...
All in fun...I apologize to any new poster if I seem 'corrosive'...I am truly about making the sport better...Advice given on HB (by some) can really assist parents / players new to the 'game'...and new to "THE GAME"...

However, I do reserve one caveat...
If someone posts a question, or asks an opinion...and then argues the answers they've received and disses the opinions of those who've offered them...
