This article gives you PGF's Dan Hay and Gary Haning's comments on the ASA JO Cup.

If you can't read this entire article you should really get a subscription to Full Count Softball.

Besides today is Brenntt Eads birthday and he's offering a special. :D

I think it's absurd they would respond... First sign of an organization in fear of another. A mature move!

Gary brings up great points. The amateur status of players is a big sticking point that I brought up last week. I don't think the big programs will participate, why would they risk their player's future NCAA eligibility, not worth it. And why, so they can fatten some travel ball coach's wallet?

Kinda funny! Tournament entry fee 6000. But except for the teams getting special invites, to pgf, it cost more to go to their championship! A team has to go qualify right? Maybe takes 2 qualifiers. 800 a pop, plus travel, and hotel, and food costa per family? Come on entry fees arent the issue here. If everyone would just leave each other alone, it would be fine.

I have 2 questions. Why did pgf start their tournament this year on Friday? And why does surfcity tourneys start a new tournament every year, to rival every long running tournament around? Zoom to june, oh we have a special invite tourney. Champions cup, oh we have a spdcial 3 day tourney for you now.

Its hard to side with any of them, because its all about greed nowadsys. They all preach, its about the girls. Not really, otherwise you guys would make it affordable again. First one to get rid of stay in our special 150 a night hotels, ill follow immediately.

Great point and you nailed it... Don't forget they had to add "Platinum" division. Have to make sure they achieve full financial success! LOL...

Come on now be honest... ASA is softball. USA baseball has the same JO tourney for baseball. One in AZ and the other in FL. Their copycat system/tourney absolutely works and is more than proven. It appears the sleeping giant has been awakened!

Surprised PGF commented. If you believe you are the best never comment about the rest. You never see another car mentioned in a porsche ad

Neither week starts on a Friday. The first week has the same Sat thru Fri schedule as last year. The only difference is it's the 12U/18U week because the 14U/16U was moved back 2 weeks.

Yeah, SC's June Invitational exposed the competition between SC/PGF and TCS. It also puts a lot of teams in the uncomfortable position of choosing a side. Interesting that neither of CA's 18U teams appear on either's list of teams.

SC's Summer Showcase is far from new and it's the same weekend it's always been. What's different this year is Champions Cup was able to push their events back a week (after CO) and the overlap is now with their 14U/16U weekend instead of the 18U weekend.

PGF's comment is exactly what Ad executives strategy of comparing themselves to the competition to show that they are better for decades to both show superiority & pull the "fence sitter" down & back into the fold. As far as car ads it is routinely done by numerous brands & is standard, not with Porsche whose $80K & up price tags would be considered "the poor mans Lamborghini" but also they don't compete with with GM, or Toyota (Lexus) but they all do it, Hyundai, Scion comparative analysis is commonplace.

I'm not sure of the NCAA "professional" rules but I know when I attended Univ of Houston Carl Lewis was winning both money & cars (a porsche to be exact :D ) running in summer Pro meets & that never affected his eligibility. then again back in the '80's we had a point guard who got a new 240Z every month too & football programs had all kinds of players on the dole. I would think if the money goes to the team/Org & not directly to the player they'd be safe or ASA wouldn't even make the offer. Besides Team USA & international competition rules are different(ASA being the USOC authority).

My kid won $50 last week after winning a Track Sprint cycling tourney ;)

Haning makes some cogent points. I guess I just don't understand why he would give a crap, given his statement regarding "elite" teams he spoke to choosing not to participate in the ASA fundraiser.

I would imagine that PGF may wish to offer something comparable if the fundraiser is filled and successful.....just a guess on my part though.
