Not arguing the analysis or study of video. Definitely a good tool for helping hitters develop. Just stating how the tee can also help a batter develop. I have had the opportunity to pick the brains of a few former MLB players who had extended careers and they all agreed that tee work was part of their daily training, particularly when in a slump. My college coach was also big on tee work which is why I also believe in it.

Simply watching video may help a coach teach but a player needs a variety of tools and drills to develop different aspects of the swing.

Perhaps you can enlighten us with your theory on training a successful hitter.

Before you can know how to train a hitter you must know the goal in terms of what do elite hitters actually do. I think if I start pontificating we will talk past each other. If you really want me to go beyond urging you to examine your beliefs in the light of videos of elite hitters, pick one on the link I gave you that you think supports or disagrees with your beliefs on hitting and lets discuss it.

I got where I am today in terms of hitting beliefs by being shown things so I'm not holding myself out as a genius know it all. There are average parents everywhere calling bs on accepted hitting wisdom due to the ready availability of video on the net. it was late in Bonds" career when Don Slaught reportedly showed him his bat was not moving down at contact as he thought. watch what they do more than what they say

Although I sense sarcasm....LOL...
My theory...well...I don't have a theory per sei...And claim no expertise in anything...
In our area of the Northern Hemisphere we aren't blessed with a 'self ordained' instructor every few hundred yards...

What I did with my kid is seek out people who do know and had the credentials to prove their theory for her enlightenment...which SHE does it...all I do is drive...and listen and thru the power of video to and critiqued by her coaches...I know what its supposed to look like...
I dont want to use their names...but they've won numerous National Tourneys in ASA and PGF..., supplied many dozens of NCAA D1 players...or have been Coaches in the WCWS...

Like I said...we sought them out for their expertise, and in most cases can call them friends of mine...And I deeply appreciate ALL of them...All of whom have won a few games...

Picking an instructor by credentials is where I started twenty years ago. But then I noticed for every credentialed instructor who said A there was an equally credentialed instructor who said B, C or D. With these credentialed instructors saying conflicting things how do you sort it out? I settled on comparing everything anyone said about hitting to slow motion video of LOTS of hitters. Eventually I eliminated everyone but two speaking of nationally known instructors and locals around me.

I haven't watched him teach but I'm pretty sure Cochran is very good as well.

But just saying...We use (d) folks who have the National creditability in ASA / PGF and the NCAA...must work pretty well...theyre all successful at those levels...
Not from SoCal, but have used one in that area...and I owe him a lot...

Glad it worked out for you. It just bothered me that all these gurus and experts said conflicting things. Had to sort it out for myself.

Good news is, as my friend Scott says, any program violently implemented will result in improvement. Turns out hard work matters.
