What's on your mind?

Would you agree that judging people and judging their actions or their ideas are very different things? Could you be confusing the two?

I would absolutely agree with your first statement. You'll have to show me where you think I had any confusion about the two concepts, though. "A bad coach and a bad group of girls" is a judgment about the people, not the actions. This is what I attacked, and why I attacked it, so I think I'm pretty clear on the distinction.

Instead of saying shame on him for his actual action… shame on everyone else for judging those actions accordingly.

Don't disagree with the first part, other than I feel the umpire may have started the tit for tat. I don't have any proof of that, and it doesn't justify beaning him. Even if it did, the high road would still have been the better choice.

I did, in fact, say shame on the coach, or words to that effect:

jtat32 wrote:I certainly don't disagree that this was a poor way to handle the situation.

jtat32 wrote:There were better ways to handle this situation, to be sure

Again, I am fairly certain I never said shame on anyone for judging the actions. If you can provide an example, I will apologize in advance.

blackwidow wrote:People make judgments all the time. It’s human nature.
Have you not just made a boatload of judgments in your answers to my questions?

Sure, but the only judgment I have attacked was the one that was made regarding the moral character of the girls on the team in question. That's a different ballgame, IMO.

blackwidow wrote:Thank you for your responses you have made your position quite clear.

Lot's of opinions posted in here, some thoughtful and incisive regardless of the opinions expressed, some reactionary. Yours was probably the first attempt to directly solicit an intelligent two-way discussion, so thank you.

What mountain? Thanks to people like you we can't even get more than a small groundswell.

The Return of Skarp...highly overrated. And we waited so long for it to come out.

Do you have anything further you'd like to add hominem, counselor?

Oh goody!

Now, back to the subject...right vs wrong. What happened that night was clearly wrong.

Yes. Mole-hill wrong. Which is, I believe, where the substantive posting left off.

That's your opinion.

The good news: It's not the prevailing opinion.
The bad news: It's still going to be swept under the rug.

What's it going to take for it to be a mountain? Does the umpire need to suddenly drop dead from brain bleeding caused by the blow to the head? Maybe then it would be a mountain.
