Norcal top ten list!! Let's hear it!

by DHBHitting » Mon Dec 22, 2008 6:27 pm

A top team should never, under any circumstances, get boat raced 16-0 (or whatever the score was) in championship play by anyone. If you get smoked that bad, you have deficiencies that have to be addressed. If they get that pitcher though, they could be a player

Oooooh Ouch! Very Ouch! But true, nothing I can say to that, very true actually.

But in their defense they did eventually qualify the next week in Stockton and they did win a couple of games in OKC, so they can build on that...

But completely agree, they need that shutdown pitcher, good luck to them in either developing one or finding one.

Hey Demonboy, what about So Cal??? Who is looking like they will be strong this summer? If memory serves me Rico can bring back his whole squad cant he? And the Athletics still have a bunch of girls that are coming back right? Angels only lost Macon correct?

The picture in So Cal is kind of murky.

Is it really murky, or merely the same ol' handful of dominant teams, and as such, not likely to attract so much fiery comment! :o
Don't worry about tomorrow. You did that yesterday.

Posts: 16 Norcal top ten list!! Let's hear it!
All this chatter about Norcal teams, let's hear a top ten list! Here's my top ten to start.

1. Sting - Pitching is key, and they have it. Good pickups(players, coaches!), and hear a few more pickups coming.

2. Magic - They could easily be switch with 1, but need to see them against the best! Very good talent though.

3. Sorcerers Phil - Have the field players, but need that stopper on the hill. If they get at least one, look out.

4. Grapes - Very good team, but in the same boat as sorc. need pitching bad, but field players are solid.

Anybody have any other teams that could be a sleeper , let us know. Let's hear everyone else's list now.

Hey Goldball4 let's talk about your list. 1. Sting Pitching is key and they got it. Where was it yesterday? Ricketts can't pitch every game so now what? 2. Magic could be reversed with 1. No sh*t. 3. Sorcerers need a stopper on the hill. I think Medeiros did a great job stopping Sting yesterday and gave Magic a good battle. I know wait til May.

Well Old Darter not to defend anyone but all those things are indeed true. You can not truly be given the title of "leader of the pack" until you actually earn the title of "leader of the pack".

So to suggest that the Magic should be given such a title based on their fall performance at Gold is a stretch for most of us who have been around this thing for a while. Fall is a completely different animal, the batting 16 kids, all the young players, etc..etc..Come summer this will not be the case, teams will be batting 9 which means their best hitters get 4 cracks at your #1 not 2, believe me it makes a difference.

Like I have said, I have seen a many a fall ball champions look very ordinary come June, not saying that will be the case with the Magic, I will admit they are solid, and look like they will be a force come this summer. But lets wait and see how they do in the more important events at the Gold level before you expect folks to speak of them in such a manner that does not reflect any doubt in their ability to compete at the highest level.

Granted they have been quite impressive here these last few months at Gold, but the bottom line is, they really have not won anything yet....time will tell...Good Luck Magic.

DHBHitting....all true, and I am not suggesting they are the "leader of the pack" by any means. You are correct in that title must be earned, and no team in NorCal has earned that title. Although SoCal has periodically lost that title, I think history proves that the chances are better than 50-50 the "leader of the pack" in Gold will come form there in any given year.

Rather, I'm simply pointing out that there is a team in NorCal, who for the first time in a very long time, has been at the top of the pack in any age group....and that those who discount that or say it's insignificant at the Gold level are fooling themselves. Of course it's significant.

But you're right time will tell. Of course that's what everyone has said about this team for the last five years. I'm still betting they will be the best in NorCal when the dust settles by the end of July. That said, proof is on the field not the chat boards.

Being attacked again for just putting a top ten list up? Now everyone who has spoken is correct with what they have said. The Magic looked great yesterday, and in the fall. Sting looked very sloppy on defense , and the sorcerers played pretty good ball. If you watched the games yesterday, like you already said progolfr, magic struggled against medieros, and didn't do anything against ricketts, so that proves when they face the top pitchers it will all level out. Especially, like DH said, when everyone plays a solid 9. Each team will be pushing for one run to win the game. My new top would be Magic, then sorcerers, and then sting after yesterday for sure.

I love it! Dont be afraid to step on out there and say what you really feel, you are obviously a very staunch Magic supporter and I applaud your support for your club. Again I love it! That is exactly how you are suppose to feel about your club.

However that is pretty tall talk my freind for a team moving up from 16's and playing basically their first year at Gold, I think you may be underestimating what it will be like this summer. But hey I can dig it, maybe I'm dead wrong and there is not that big of jump from 16's to fall ball, to summer, I have been wrong before, and like I love to say, "time will tell" cant wait for Hemet to see how everyone does....Good luck to you guys..

And oh, not to give you a hard time old darter but you did mean the best in Nor Cal after the first week in August right? The end of July is when the 16's play their nationals, the big girls play in August....:-)

So two or three things things. I've been around for a long time, and I know exactly what Gold Ball is like. Just because this team hasn't played a summer of Gold does not mean I don't understand Gold. Secondly, while I agree there is a big jump from an average (even very good) 16u teams to Gold, this was THE best 16u team in 2008. I think ANY team just off a 16u National Championship is at least the 64th best Gold team in the country. Finally, I intentionally said the last week of July. I have been around long enough to know that once you get to nationals, anything can happen. A team thought to go 2&Q can get lucky a lucky draw or get on a short streak. If the Grapes go and draw a team from Moose Falls Maine while LM draws Hannings BB team in the first round....well you get my point. After all, one win moves you way up the ladder! :D
