Yes you can opt out of high school as a freshman and play with a 95 team.

Someone who has playing softball since T-ball wants to show her fellow classmates that she has game by participating in this High School sport. What I hate to see is the influence of these travel ball coaches that bring along the drama and BS that come w/ playing travel. Influencing coaches, scouting ect. If you have a daughter involved in HS ball take the 3 months off! Cut the chord! Let her earn it on her own. Most of these kids would probably enjoy the break from you also!

My point exactly. This is their school, this is their life , but we hope that the people running the HS program understand that the girls that play TB will miss some pre-season practices. At the same time the TB coaches need to chill. These girls go straight from the 8th grade to "showcases" before half of them can remember to bring their cleats to practice. As far as making varsity as a freshman...no big deal it is just a 20 game season...over before you know it.

My daughter's school practices M-F from 1:30-4:00 daily.

I agree that HS is a choice and many kids will unfortunately decline HS if the ultimatum is TB or HS; I agree it is important for staying in "softball shape" and for social reasons and I hate to see kids not play HS but the fact is you will get very little or zero recruiting from it.

I too wish there could be a big group hug between TB and HS coaches cause this topic gets ugly. I was told in HS I could not to go to TB practice Sunday and I just said OK and went anyway...sad that it comes down to that but some HS coaches are like that....

I for one am looking forward to the break, I am enjoying this Christmas Break now, one reason I want my players to enjoy some relaxed softball, and their friends outside of travel ball will be good for them. I also think this will be the time for some to realize that maybe travel is not for them and they will only play high school ball.
We want our players to be dedicated to the hours of work that go into this and i always heard this is the year you lose a couple. No worries though they need to make this choice on their own, and they need to step up and realize what our ultimate goal is here.

I am also looking forward to going to their high school games and watching them play more relaxed and maybe playing other positions they do not get to play for us. Most are so excited to make the varsity team and it is nice to see them excited about the game. I also feel that after a month or so they will miss our team and will be looking forward to getting back to us and this is when we will start our Sunday workouts, Mid-April. It will be all good, I just think it sucks for those who have those a$$ coaches who hate travel ball for some reason and will hold it over their heads. I wish those players all the luck.

Alot of HS coaches dont coach tb, so they are excited to be able to get out there and practice early. Maybe he wanted to see his entire team on saturday because during the week alot of his players are in Xcountry, basketball, volleyball, communist soccer, etc. On the other hand, its just the way it is now. I mean my girls wanted more than 3 weeks off after utah but we had to start playing again because everyone else is and the manager easily falls for peer presure!

Is it me or is nzane a whiner? What big important tourn in nov did your player miss?if your kid starts on varsity you won't sound like a little beoch.there are plenty of HS coaches who are better than you.If it dosent work out for you in HS ,you will be the first one to switch schools.
