Guys,

I know it's hard to believe. I was blown away by the results also. We were at 5 Star Sports Academy in Fountain Valley CA in mid September. She threw 15 fastballs measured by a Bushnell radar gun. Half were 41-43 the other half 45mph. She threw a 10" ball that day just before batting practice. During Fountain Valley Winter rec-ball Dani dominated the 8U division, which traditionally has some very strong teams Trabuco Hills, Mission Viejo, Aliso Viejo, West Grove. Many of those teams were moving up to 10's. Look at her video, it will give you an idea of her ability. Her hitting is outstanding also. She lead the team in hitting. The team had 7 girls moving up to 10's. Her batting AVG was .429 her SLG was .667 and her OPS 1.238. By the way my other kid was playing for Nemesis this weekend. #3 one hopped one to the left center fence during the game against Crush in her first at bat. She is also incredibly strong and incredibly talented. Little sis wants to be like big sis.

She looks very good. If you want an accurate reading, have her pitching coach clock her with a Jugs or a Stalker....Bushnell makes excellent binoculars...their radar guns are as accurate as a sun dial.

Keep her in rec until she's 12.

Ok, if your going to post a clip of your DD pitching on a FP forum you gotta expect a few armchair pitching coaches to chime in with their .02

Is it just me or does she seem to finish with her upper body leaning too far forward towards home plate? Otherwise, she looks like a solid young 10u pitcher to me. No, neither of my DD's have perfect pitching mechanics, not yet anyway.

Bushnell gets this rap all the time and I call BS on it. For the price, you can't beat it. I've worked with multiple Bushnells over the last few years andy at fastpitch tournaments they almost always were within a mile either side of the JUGS and Stalker guns. The advance scouts at our local major league baseball stadium use almost exclusively Stalker guns, and they regularly will vary by a mile or two on each pitch. Maybe you got a bad gun Sam.

I bought a Jugs gun. Usually reads a mile or two higher than a Stalker (which is the most accurate gun).

You get what you pay for.

A team was using a Bushnell gun on my DD when she was 12...they had her at 44-45mph....she was throwing 10 mph faster than their reading....they didn't select her to join their team because they wanted a pitcher who threw at least 50mph. No biggy. We saw them later that season and she threw a no-no against them.

If you have a Jugs or a Stalker, you never "get a bad one."

Did you really say Dominated 8U and strong teams in the same sentence? They're 7-8 years old


And then to go on and list out stats like she's verballing to a D1 .429 in 8U, with a Slug% is that before or after Sally in right fields throws the ball to centerfield. unless your 8U is drastically different then ours 8u is a comedy of errors at best; anytime you can rack up a HR on a dribbler to the pitcher followed by 4 overthrows you don't get to keep stats

Man, my boy only made 5 or 6 outs at the plate his entire machine-pitch season when he was 8, not to mention probably averaged 10 or more put-outs a game from his "pitcher" position. I guess I'm a bad dad, I didn't even think about keeping his stats

Qwik, I hope you don't let your dd buy into the hype of how great she is. My own experience I had a dominating rec pitcher (not my dd, she is not a pitcher). At games & tournaments people would come out to watch her pitch & she would hear them talk about her. I would get on her about not getting a big head, because eventually she would run into a good hitting team that would hit her, but of course at 10U's (2nd year) everyone is telling her how great she is. She was at 50 mph from what her pitching coach said, I didn't care at that age to me not that important was more concerned about mechanics, location, command & mound presence.

1st 12U friendly we play in travel, we go up against TNL they were suppose to be moving up (so probably their 94 team playing in Fall, I didn't know much about the other teams back then) & they were one of the better teams at that time, from what I was told. They rocked my dominating rec ball pitcher (only girl I had that had any chance of not getting killed out there), she took a huge blow confidence wise, it took me months to convince her that she was still a very good pitcher, but would have to work harder to compete against true travel ball players. It was so demoraling for her to always be put on a pedestal and to be hit like that she actually considered going back to rec. Even after she came back & really dominated some new travel ball teams like what we were.

I won't pile on like everyone else, just make sure you don't let her think that no one can hit her.

I saw a quote in the paper from Andre Agassi (tennis great, in case you forgot) telling the reporter how is kid went 53-57 in his coach pitch league. I guess even superstar athletes are proud of their little offspring and boast.

Sounds like his kid is a bust. Any kid of Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf, shold go no worse than 56-57 in coach pitch.
