I'll take a hurricane over those tornados anyday

Off topic. Home for jokes and other misc. stuff.

That's incredible damage there - we get a hurricane, we have time to think, plan, tighten up our weak areas on our homes by boarding up windows and pick up things that could become shrapnel. These people have 10-20 minutes and even then - what can they do. Two mile wide tornado - where do you go - I saw pictures of shelters being sucked clean.

Tough thing about a tornado is the randomness. One house fine. One smashed. I agree with lack of warning

Just heard from my brother, my niece and my grand niece are fine - in shock from looking at the pictures 3 miles from where my niece and her husband and baby live.

I'll take earthquakes over both.

Not me. I only want things that warn me that they are coming - like 2- 3 days - enough time to cook enough to get through 3 days of playing cards.

Why worry for 2-3 days. Earthquakes are over before you know it and if you happen to be at the wrong place you will never know about it.
In 50 or so years, three have been scary, Sylmar, 6.6 - 1972, Landers, 7.3 - 1992 and Northridge, 6.7 - 1994. Oh, and Whittier, 5.9 - 1987 it was frightening because it was shallow had been 15 years since the last big one in the LA area.

Tornados and Hurricanes scare me, it is about perception I guess.

They just announced 51 dead, 27 in one elementary school. Prayers for the families.....

Ive seen both, to include an F-5 tornado and Katrina...
I choose neither, but no place in the USA is immune from some natural disaster...
Its a bit late but this weather pattern is normal...Ok is center of mass for tornadoes...

I have bro-in-law that lives on the Texas Gulf Coast, every time a hurricane threatens, he tells me the two things on top of his shopping list is plywood and booze. Why do people always get plywood every time a storm hits. I would have all the plywood pre-cut for each window and then store them somewhere. The booze would have to be resupplied every time and between storms to ensure freshness.

We do have pre-cut plywood - but usually , before the next hurricane, there is a bonfire or a bbq than runs low and in goes that processed plywood.
