This is just quick note intended to acknowledge two things about the Power Surge friendly held today, Sunday 4-21-13. (I am in no way associated with the Power Surge organization. Our team simply attended today’s friendly.)
First, and as usual, the fields were beautiful. The grass was mown. The infields were level and dragged. And most importantly, as I am a pitcher’s dad, the pitching mounds were in great condition. There is nothing worse than travelling to a field where the pitchers have to deal with sand pits or un-level pitching rubbers or drag holed pitching mounds. Power Surge pitching mounds and fields were perfect.
Second, Power Surge created a unique hour forty (1:40) drop dead format. While the above field condition note is without reservation, this note is simply a matter of my opinion. The extra twenty (20) minutes adds substantial value to every friendly game. The extra innings that pitchers get are invaluable. Likewise, the added “at bats,” for all the girls are precious. I understand that friendlies are fund raisers, but they are also a critical part of team improvement. I hope that more organizations understand this and adjust friendly schedules accordingly. Longer games would just make us all better.
Thanks Power Surge for a fun and valuable day.
