Looked around the internet, but couldn't find a ranking of the college softball conferences. Here was my completely unscientific try. I'ld like to hear comments, especially on the second, third, fourth, etc. tiers:

2. SEC
3. Big XII
4. Atlantic Coast Conference
5. WAC

6. Big 10
7. Conference USA
8. Mountain West
9. Southland
10. Mountain West

11. Big East
12. Pacific Coast Conference
13. Big West
14. Big East

17. Colonial
18. Atlantic Sun
19. Missouri Valley
20. Ohio Valley

Wow. "Who cares!" Witty. Insightful. I must say that I am humbled. But, still wonder why dozens and dozens of top California recruits are starting to play in some of those irrelevant conferences.

I am pretty sure that the nationally ranked teams in the WAC, CUSA, Big 10, Sunbelt, ACC, and Mountain West conferences may disagree.

Everyone will probably agree on the order of the first 3. Other than some duplicates (only 31 conferences), your list is pretty good. Without researching head to head, I may switch (or tie) the WAC/Big 10 and Mtn West/Big East. Once you get to #16 on down, you end up with only one or two dominant teams in a conference versus a talent packed PAC or SEC.

Being from Big 12 land, I sure would like to see TX, A&M, or even OK make it to the CWS next year.

The answer is simple. What you are saying isn't true. Dozens and dozens of "top recruits" don't. Looking at the current senior class out of California, the most highly recruited players are mostly going to the Big 3. My guess is you're using either the term "top recruits" or "dozens and dozens" a little loosely. More correct would be a handful of top recruits.

For the record, I don't subscribe to the notion that the rest of the conferences are "who cares". Well not much anyway.

I'd be inclined to think that the Big West is higher than what you've ranked them. Definitely above the Pacific Coast.

The Pac 10 will be down this year (for them).

Good job ranking 34 conferences. Too much thinking for me.

This is my point. There are 29 schools in the top 3 you mentioned. There are over 200 in the the other 31 conferences. You may not care about #'s 4-34 but there are a lot of people that do. Just because you are not in the Pac 10, Big 12 or SEC you don't matter according to yor response. You are entitled to your opinion, I just saying there are a lot of student athlets and their friends and family that do care.

No question that the PAC 10 is #1 but it sure is fun watching them slip a little bit each year. Big 12, SEC, ACC and Big 10 are all coming on strong. I think the Midwest and Southeast coaches are starting to realize that they are better off with top local players rather than 3rd and 4th tier California players.
