Always hate to hear of an injury, especially a season ending one. Wishing her a full recovery.

What a shame. I don't think a HS coach should ever, ever, let the ace pitcher run the bases, I don't care who they are or how athletic they may be. Consider that most of these aces are big, tall kids, 5'10" or above, and momentum and leverage become a big factor on their knees. The risk is just too great to the kid and their future, put in a small zippy courtesy runner please!

I don't agree.

There are some pitchers that don't want to run, and some that can't run well because of their size/height/agility, and that I understand. But, all pitchers do not feel that way, and some are among the most athletic players on their team. As with a lot of situations, it depends on the person.

If you were the parent of a girl who's school was paid for because of her pitching ability, you would agree.

It's best to not post about injuries, but if you are going to, get your facts straight.

Gotta side with Just4fun on this one, just too much risk to the program and the kid. Now if the HS program can't get to playoffs and the kid is not committed to a pitching related scholarship, I'd say have at it and have fun! Besides, do you see Ricketts, Traina, Canion (who also tore her ACL running to first) stay on to run the bases?

The biggest difference between HS and College is the courtesy runner rule. So comparing Ricketts, Traina, Canion or whatever college pitcher you want, to a high school or summer ball teams pitcher is irrelvent.

With that being said, if Ricketts, Traina and Canion ran well then yes I would see them staying out there all the time, but they don't run well, so they get ran for 1 time in a game. The other times they get on, they are running, or else they are burned and cant pitch for the rest of the game. Because , again, there is no courtesy runner in college,

You are not right about that. If your dd is not normally lead-off batter, maybe she is not the same type of player. Regardless, it is often said on here that if the girl is happy, she will play well. Batting, running, getting extra bases is what makes her happy. If she does go to college and play ball, she would rather be #2 pitcher, and get to bat, run, and have a chance to play other positions, instead of just pitching and sitting.

I believe in the WCWS last year, Ricketts stole home when Alabama tried to throw out a runner stealing second. I don’t remember the exact situation, but I do remember thinking that things were really going OUs way, if she was stealing home successfully. As stated above by MavFan, I thought normally pitchers in college do run for themselves because if they are sub'd for twice, they must leave the game?
