Of course that does not answer the question to why similar problems happened in Ireland and in other areas of the world.

Homosexuality and surpressed sexual urges have been an issue in the Church since its inception. St Gregory even put rules on how to avoid it in his monastic order in the middle ages. Perhaps the idea of celibate priest is the issue. You rarely here of these kinds of issues in Protestant churches or in Synagogues.

now we are getting somewhere the post was about celebrate the new Pope, and how people be so happy with it and how we are feeling blessed to be apart of it when all the negative things the have happen with the church...I could not wrap my mind around why are they feeling so blessed... I guess we all have different ways of looking at things and free to believe what we want but I feel we can change it...

The post-Vatican II liberal take over was not only exclusive to the USA......

I'm sorry, but this exists in EVERY church. The Catholic Church just happens to be one of the most recognizable churches. In the last year alone I have read my fair share of other religions having been caught in this same mess. Meeting girls in parking lots to discuss the bible, REALLY?!?!?!?!?!

It's because the Catholic Church is so big that these stories make news.

You can use the argument that their celibacy is a prime reason for them to get these sexual urges, but what about the religions that allows marriage? They cheat on their wives and have sexual contact with the opposite sex. That doesn't get out though.

Believe in the religion or not, that is your choice on who you choose to worship, but the fact of the matter is that it is OUR responsibilities at parents to protect our kids, regardless of who it is.

Last I checked, only one person could walk on water, and he gave his life for us, all of us sinners!!!

Depends on what one considers rare. Three come to mind immediately:

The Peoples' Temple
The Branch Davidians
The Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints

I'm sure it wouldn't take much research to find many more.

I like this guy, he is exactly what the Catholic Church needs. He is the Anti-Obama and just watch, the media will try to destroy him.

I do have a suggestion for his first action as Pope.
He needs to excommunicate:
1. Biden.
2. Pelosi.
3. Cuomo/Kennedy clan.
4. all other fake Catholics.

Pope Francis, may be humble and soft spoken but he is also plain spoken and tough as nails. The questions is, will he clear the temple with a scalpel or an axe?

Let's change that to main-stream Protestant Churches

Vatican II was the Catholic Church finally opening there eyes to what Martin Luther had complained about over 300 years before.

Liberal=Catholic Church-----not sure I see that connection?????

I am pleased with the new Pope- hope he lives long enough to enact some changes and to clean house. Hopefully a no-nosense Jesuit can get things done. Also nice to see South America(largest concentration of Catholics in the world) finally get a bigger say in the Church

Fine.

The 3 insurance companies that insure the majority of Protestant churches in this country have reported that they receive an average of ~260 reports per year of child abuse by clergy, staff, and congregation members. The Catholic Church reported back in '07 that there have been 13,000 reports of abuse since 1950. That's ~228 per year and I think that's worldwide.

We probably don't hear about this because of who dominates the media outlets in this country and their feelings toward the Catholic Church.
