Winter Tournaments

How is everyone doing in the winter tournaments?

we play our first tourney on Dec. 12. we STILL have some work to do defensively, but as long as we can score 10-12 runs a game we should be fine.!lol!

Our team has taken a break. Have not played a tournament since the Mash. We do have an indoor tournament in a couple weeks at Sportzone. We decided as a group to limit winter travel this year. Most parents have at least one other child in college so we are trying keep travel softball costs in check.

We played in our one and only sportzone tournament a couple of weeks ago, and now will play one tournament a month up in Fort Wayne to try to stay sharp.

Canocorn, I know we are in different age groups, but how did you guys do at Sportzone? How was the turnout? We decided not to play in Ft. Wayne this year. As noted earlier, we have one tournament at Sportzone second weekend in December. We use to play alot of arena ball at the old LTD on the southside to try and stay sharp. We heard a facility on the eastside of Indy has a similiar program. We are going to play a session of it and see how our team likes it.

We got second at the sportzone. But our game is built around speed, stealing, bunt and run, etc. The coach did not want to risk injury and we did not steal a single base. (Ex. we have stolen 101 bases in 31 games this fall). We prefer the dome vs. sportszone. The carpet at the zone is dangerous and needs to be replaced. I bet we wont play there again in the future.

Agreed! The sportzone will do for practice. As far as games it's an injury waiting to happen. My daughter has played there once and I don't think I will let her play there again. The dome is about as safe as you can get on artificial surfaces.

Congrats on second place. Could not agree more about the comments regarding the sportzone surface. We are playing the one tournament just for the sake of playing. Shake a little winter rust off, see some live pitching.

The sportzone is under new ownership as off late October and the new owners are aware of the concern about playing surface.

And the old ownership has been saying they were going to put field turf down for what at least 3 years now?

How many years did it take them to get rid of the stupid foul out rule at least 6 that I can remember.

As you can tell I am not the biggest fan of that facility and the biggest reason is all the kids that have gotten hurt on that turf. Somebody needs to have the new ownership read this topic of conversation and maybe they will make the facility safer for the kids.
