How many umpires should be on the field

by blue1956 » Wed Feb 27, 2013 2:33 pm

Who umpires should be on the field for a 12u game I have been noticing more friendlies at the 12u games trying to get away with only having one umpire...for the amount of money teams spend shouldnt there be two?

Easily solved - if you want two or three umpires - pay for them.

Who pays that much per game for a 12u friendly?

No matter what you pay you get whatever the host provides. If you don't like it, you can play elsewhere. If enough people feel like you then that host will either have to change or stop hosting.

Two teams paying $50-$60 each equals $100-$120 a game...

I don't have any idea where you are or what the going rate is for umpires there, but I would say that for $50 - 60 per team per game, one umpire should be expected.

In my neighborhood, a single umpire would expect $35 - 40/game as a solo umpire. Two umpires should expect $25 - 30 each per game.

Without knowing any details about the organization hosting the friendly and why they are doing it, there are other costs besides umpires involved such as field rental, insurance, lights (if night games are played), concession items, etc. They may or may not have these costs, but my point is there is probably more than just the cost of the umpires coming out of your fees.

Good points I didnt think of that...thanks ill take that in to thought next time I'm looking for a friendly....because at 12u these girls are becoming so good and the action on the field one umpire can't make all the calls on the field....

we charge $40.00 per Team, we use 1 Umpire. if we used 2 Umpires, then we would charge $50.00 or $55.00 per game. Remember this is a Fund-Raiser, and $50.00 average per Game is Fair. Now i have noticed that some Teams charge up to $60.00 & $65.00 per game, now thats way too much. Thank you
