Worth Helmets suck

Helmets are only designed to protect against one hit and then needs replaced. How many times did it get dropped, or hit previously. - probably a lot.

SBradley where did you see if you drop your helmet it needs to be replaced?

We had three kids in the fall get concussions with brand new helmets. One was running to first and she was one step away from first base and the catcher hit her in the head with the ball and she had a concussion. I have never heard that if you drop a helmet or the helmet gets hit by a ball one time you should replace it. Interesting....if true

Its in the fine print on the packaging when you buy the helmet. Being repeatedly dropped will have the same effect over time as one dramatic impact of a ball. It breaks down the material shell.

All motor cycle helmets are made out of this country because they were all taken to court so many times they folded. Worth helmets are one size fits all that can be part of the problem. I don't think every kid has the same size head. The helmets also are just foam inside which does not protect very much. MLB baseball helmets will with stand a fast ball, they are rated to protect the batter from a major league pitch. It would be interesting to see what a Worth helmet is rated at.

I think most of the helmets you see in TB and/or HS today are cosmetic pieces of junk. I would like to know the safety standards these helmets must meet, as I know for a fact that my kid has multiple concussions as the direct result of softballs to the head. Some of which scared the crap out of me as she has fallen to the ground. If a helmet cannot take a pitch going 60mph, than what the HELL is it rated for, i guess maybe when it shatters it fails, stuff is garbage IMO, all of it!

Why cant they put the same guts that they put in pro football helmets, I mean I am willing to pay whatever to protect my kid from further damage, as right now I feel like I am hanging her out to dry every time she gets in the box. Whats it take, a death to make some changes?

I have to recommend the Schutt helmet after speaking to my oldest daughter this past weekend. My youngest daughter organization uses the Worth helmet and I have seen a few players get hit in the head over the years and receive concussion. My oldest daughter while at practice this past weekend ( college ) was getting pitched too from live pitching. She said she got drilled in the head from a pitch. She said it was a new helmet the school gave her. The helmet she said cracked or shattered from impact. After taking it off she thought she was going to be in some pain but turned out she didn't . The trainers checked her out and showed no sign of concussion and continued hitting a half hour later. She has been checked twice afterwards and still shows no sign. Until this weekend I had never heard of this type of helmet (Schutt) but she said fits awesome and is better then her old Worth helmet. She said pitcher throws 62-65.

Has anyone used this type of helmet?

How about the pad from the post above this one?

I am not paranoid about most things, but if anything can decrease the risk of concussions even 5% and isn't too cumbersome, then I am all for it.

Looks like MLB helmets are rated for 100mph fastball and most softball helmets are rated for 70mph from 2 feet..
