Its sorta of strange why the media wants to name these storms...I think I know why...but its freaking winter, its what it does...and why if you live where winter occurs...**it happens...
Love when they say worst in history blah blah blah...the whole 120+/- years records have been kept is an excellent indicator?
Wonder how the last ice age ended? Did it happen?
Compared to Feb, 1813...how does yesterday rank?

Media does not name them, national weather service. You are right about the mini ice age! Historically the worst storms here are when an Alberta clipper and a tropical storm collide and form a noreaster. Fortunately this one went through quickly, a typical nor'easter gets stuck and continues to dump precip for several days

The good thing now is that people have enough warning to prepare. Unlike the Li express that killed hundreds of people in 1935. Over 100 were killed in westerly,ri alone

Agree with you. One of the nice things about being freaking old (60) is remembering the cycles of the 'scientists' crying wolf over whats going to happen next. People need to reduce pollution - because we need to reduce pollution. Making up fairy tales about what is causing the weather to warm up - doesn't accomplish anything other than to make people ignore them even more. My wild guess is that - its getting warmer. How I know - is that those glaciers that used to cover mostly of this continent - don't anymore - and unless Neanderthals were really into having ice in whatever they called margaritas back then - and used the glaciers up - then I bet they melted. That ought to get me a nobel prize.

They say we are in the eye of an 8 year storm named Barry, the worst one in history, at least dating back before 1776......

 ... So D-Man ... Just curious ... Do you believe that the pollution created by our species has any effect on our environment ? ... Or do we just need to reduce it because someone threw it on the ground in the park and you don't want it blowing into your yard ?

Agreed...100%

Do I agree we should make less destructive ways to create power etc...ABSOLUTELY...We used to pour oil on the ground, didn't think one thing about it...now we don't...worked in the oilfield many years ago...Some companies didnt think 'Green"...personally seen thousands of gallons of diesel dumped in holes...then again, seen Chevron in FL that were very strict...Now companies have done the things to correct their habits or no longer exist. We have to weigh the benefits of a program and make it better vs allowing the EPA to close them down arbitrarily and seemingly in a punitive manner....then we allow companies in China to do whatever to the environment...and we buy it... All this instead of helping the US workforce get more competitive, we shut them down or create rules / fines that don't encourage creating jobs...not counting Unions strangling everything

If there's a foot and a half of snow on your softball field, then round up your teammates, get some cafeteria trays and hit the slopes behind the softball field....
